Question about 2001 Hyundai Elantra

1 Answer

Dead Car The car is dead now and cannot get any lights to come on the dashboard. The first problem is that it would not start, we replaced the battery and 15 minutes after trying initially, it started. We drove it for two days and then it died while going down the road. The lights began to dim on the dash and the car began to stutter. It is totally dead.

Have the alternator checked for proper output.
Autozone will do it for free if you take the alternator off and take it to the store.
you were running the car on the battery until it drained all the power out of it.

The fact that all your electrics disappeared including all dashboard lights indicates a faulty battery/connection.

Check the battery terminals for cleanliness and tightness. Check the black earth lead for cleanliness and tightness where it connects to the engine block/bodywork. Try adding an extra black battery lead - connect it to a suitable point on the engine or bodywork

Battery not charging car is dead and will not start

Starting with the battery light, the warning light means the alternator is not charging the battery. It could be a faulty alternator, or a problem with the wiring between the battery and the alternator.
Normally you can drive a vehicle for several miles on the battery alone.
If you have charged the battery and it checks out ok, you would need to check the wiring from the battery to the alternator and to the fuse box for problems.

My 2005 ford freestyles battery was not dead but was just making a clicking sound then I went to the store came back when I turned off the car the lights stayed on until I pulled the fuse.ok more...

Had the same problem last year. It was the first time in my life that I ever saw a dashboard go haywire, like you describe. Turns out it was just a dead battery. Replaced it; no problems since.

Car won't start - is dead when trying to turn it over - the dashboard lights won't even turn on - is this a battery or an alternator issue?

the battery is dead however it could have died as a result of a bad alternator. Install a new battery and check the charging system
