98 Olds 88 starting problem

My son has had to have his fuel pump replaced twice on his 98 Olds 88. Both times after a few weeks or a week or two he has trouble starting the car. He turns the key in the ignition and it takes awhile before it will start. Both times after replacing the fuel pump it worked great. But now it is about 2-1/2 weeks after the second replacement and its doing it again. I know there has to be something else the garage is missing. It seems to make no difference if the car has been sitting for awhile or not. Help. Hi, I have a 95 Olds Royale. To make the long story short, my car stalled while it was running many weeks ago. The mechanic changed the fuel filter and replaced the wires and plugs. Few days later, it stalled again. He replaced the idler air valves that time. He told me the fuel pump is about to go down next because the fuel pressure was low. I can start my car without my problem, but sometimes when I wanted to give it more fuel, the pedal was stuck little bit and I had to press it hard to give more gas. Secondly, it stalled ocassionally when the car is going slow on uphill slope. I need a second opinion on this problem. Thanks.

I know it sounds crazy but check to see if the floor mat is blocking gas pedal. I have seen this alot in my 30 years as a master tech.the way you describe it sounds like all the other cust of mine that had the same issue. hope that is all it is. good luck and let me know.

IM WORKING ON A 88 OLDS 98 I REPLACED THE MASTER CYL. TWICE BOTH HOSES PADS ADJUSTED THE REAR BRAKES AND BLED 2 QTS. OF FLUID THROUGH IT AND STILL I HAVE A CRAPPY PEDAL IT FEELS LIKE THERE IS NO PRESSURE...

Have you changed the brake hoses on the front going to the brake caliper? If not, this could be the problem, also, when bleeding, only pump the pedal one time upon releasing the bleeder screw,do not pump the pedal, start at the master cylinder, then the right rear, and the left rear, and the right front and left front in that order, adjust the rear brakes to where the brakes are dragging pretty good, but are not locking up,

Recently bought '96 olds delta 88, slow starting after 1 week of driving, previous owenr replaced fuel filter, where is the location of the fuel filter?

Along the frame rail under the car you should see the fuel lines on the driver side. Along the line around the front driver door area there should be a metal barrel, this is the fuel filter.

99 olds bravada. just replaced fuel pump 2 weeks

Aftermarket fuel pump failure? Try "thepartsladi" store on eBay for low price GM OEM parts. Could also be wiring harness to fuel pump.

Try a new back up light switch /nuetral safety on the side of the transmission, where the shift linkage ends up.

Car dies while driving, now it won't start sometimes

Could be a fuel pump that is going bad. Some times when fuel pumps go bad they cavitate and pump not just gas but also air. If you get too much air in the line and not enough gas the car won't start. Have a mechanic check your fuel line pressure.

98 Olds 88 starting problem

Update--after getting car back from 3rd shop, it ran flawlessly for about a week or ten days. Then started doing it again. I decided to do some more troubleshooting myself. While trying to track down the components of the fuel pump electrical circuit, I did quite a bit of wire wiggling at the firewall and inside behind the glove box (the location of the fuel pump relay on this car). I had a buddy turn key to "on" while listening for the fuel pump relay to click. When he did, the fuel pump ran 2-3 seconds just like its supposed to. The car started right up, and has ran since---two weeks now. My problem definitely now looks like a short in the wiring somewhere in the fuel pump circuitry. Next time it does it, I'll try to further narrow down the area of the problem. I found this one basically by accident.

Last week my van 88 plymouth voyager over heated, now it will not start and others are telling either it has no compression or the timing went or needs to be readjusted, please help

Your nearest mechanic might have a compression tester/meter to verify it. Sometimes it depends on the degree of overheating that will cause damage to the top gasket and piston rings. A warped engine head is likely also.

Vehicle No Start - no turnover (lights, radio work) then it starts

It may be your harmonic balance. do you hear a rattling noise when it runs?
If not it could be a bad or going bad starter.
