Emergency brake light stays on on my 03 tahoe

I changed the rear brake pads on my 03 tahoe and now the emergency brake light wont go out and the warning chime sounds when i try to drive it. I have the exact same problem... anyone know how to fix this? I took the car to a mechanic and the brakes are intact according to him, so it's just a problem with the warning light.

I have an '03 Chevy Tahoe and I had a similar problem. I discovered that there is a bare copper striking plate or tab that the medal emergency parking brake pedal touches when the emergency brake is set. It turns on the idiot brake light in the dash. It had broken off and the light stayed on all the time with the say issue of chiming whenever the vehicle is in motion. You or the dealership must replace that striker plate to fix the problem.

I took the car to a GM certified service center and got it fixed for about $130. I don't really know the details of what they did other than there was a particular component that broke and needed replacement.

Why is my emergency brake light staying on after i changed the rear brakes

it could be the e-brake may not be completely down allowing the switch to not be pushed all the way off, also the switch may be out of alignment not in the proper place. if the e-brake cable sticks a little it may the handle up enough to not turn off the switch.

Why does my brake light and the a b s light comes on when this vehicle has brand new calipers and pads on

Because the problem is not with pads and/or calipers. If the lights come on only when you brake, you may have a light bulb out. If they come on when you start the car and they stay on, you have a problem with your ABS system (anti-lock braking system). The systems self-check when you start the car, so the light should come on and then go out. If it comes on and stays on, the ABS system has failed. You need to have the vehicle serviced to repair the ABS system.

Do I need any special tools to change my rear roters and pads?

no wrenches or sockets for caliper bolts and caliper retaining bracket and a c-clamp to compress the caliper piston ----if rotor is not releasing from the e-brake shoes will need a couple of wrenches to loosen the emergency brake cable line

Adjusting the parking brake on 03 pontiac vibe

If you look under the van on the driver side (usually) you'll see where the two cables from the rear inter-connect with the main cord to the front. Here, you should find an adjustable bolt that you can tighten. If it is not here, it may need to be tightened from there rear tires.

If you have drum brakes in the rear, these are most likely "self-adjusting" brakes, which may interact with the emergency brake. Everytime you back up, and apply the brakes, you are activating the self adjuster (you would have seen this located at the bottom of the brake system between the two brake pads. This is the self adjuster. Try going in reverse at about 5 miles per hour, and hitting the brakes firmly (not slamming on them). Drive forward again, and firmly press the brakes. Go in reverse again, and apply brakes firmly again; (do this about 4 or 5 times to get the rear brakes adjusted). Try the emergency brake again and if still not tighter, purchase or look in your repair manual as to how to adjust the emergency brake.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Changed the rear brake pads and now the brakes wont release.

When you replaced the pads did you make sure the calipers were working properly?, did you bleed the brake lines?, is emergency brake cable completely releaseing the rear brakes or is it hung up somewere?. Check these things first and if all is OK get it to mechanic.
