Car started running slower until it completly stopped

Yesterday my car started running slower until it completly stopped, I called a mechanic, when he came he said that the gas pump broke, now he is trying to charge me $1700, those that sounds right? Could it be something else that cause my vehicle to stopped? The fuel pump is new on Ebay for $115.00. Dropping the gas tank and replacing it should be about 2 hours labor.

That's alright.

But be careful of the kind of expertise you involve. Be sure it is a registered garage incase somethings goes wrong again, you will not have to pay.

Cheers and dont forget to rate.

RE LK 3504 (35 hp 4 wheel drive Tractor starts, runs 5=10 minutes under load, then slowly fades away running slower and slower until it stops. Restarts in 15 min, same result

Here is an idea.
It sort of sounds like there is a blockage after a while in the gas tank.
If there were sediment in the bottom of the gas tank, it would start and run fine sitting still.
However, when driving it, it would be a matter of a few minutes until the sloshing of the fuel would cause the sediment to mix in with the fuel, and clog the filter screen in the fuel tank.
When it stops, the sediment would settle back down, and in 15 - 20 minutes, it would be clear again.
God bless your efforts.

Audi a3 fuel problem

That could be a problem with injectors. Try to clean them first. The second cause may be gas filter(s) clogged up if you were using dirty gas (e.g. from metal can). Last of easy fixing problem is a gas pump replacement. Everything else (including full examination) can be done at the dealership only.

Very likely the fuel pump has failed, if you mean you tapped on the gas tank
and it finally started. When a pump fails, sometimes rapping on the tank will re-energize it briefly or maybe even a couple of times before it gives out for good.
If you were tapping on the gas pedal, though, and it just started, your mechanic will have to look at it. Too many electrical fault possibilities, Scott, it needs proper diagnosis to find the p[roblem.

I have a 2003 escalade ,two months ago I put a fuel pump because the escalade stopped while driving and it didn't want to start after 10 minutes the car started and i drove for a little while but stopped...

Have your mechanic do an OBII scan (fault scan) that will identify what is ailing your rig. He'll pull the codes and they'll identify what is exactly wrong.

Sounds very possible but it also sounds very expensive for a simple fuel pump? He must be on a good rate. In Australia it would cost about 4-5 hundred for that repair at MOST and the US dollar is nearly worth twice ours! *Shock*

Fuel system

Sounds like bad fuel pump. On the fuel pump there is a hose that goes from the pump up to the lines that feed your motor. That hose is about 4 inches long and is in the tank itself. I have had alot of those come through. You could replace the whole pump, but if that hose is busted, replacing that will be enough to fix it.
