The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is located in the coolant passage of the cylinder head. The ECT sensor is a variable resistor whose resistance changes as the temperature of the engine coolant flowing past the sensor changes. When coolant temperature is low, sensor resistance is high; when coolant temperature is high, sensor resistance is low. The Engine Control Module (ECM) checks ECT sensor voltage and uses the information to adjust fuel injector pulse width and ignition timing. When the temperature sensed is very cold, the ECM enriches the fuel mixture and advances ignition timing. As coolant temperature rises, the ECM reduces the amount of enrichment and timing advance. engine code p0115 - ad5a8e2.jpg P0115 is set when the ECM doesn't see this resistance (usually an open circuit) which usually means the sensor is burned out when there's nothing wrong with wiring and connections between the sensor & the ECM.

2002 elantra p0128 code. Cleared with a scanner but keeps coming back on. Coolant level seems ok. Fans turn on/off automatically. Coolant temp gage sometimes stays below C when driving on freeway at night,...

I would start with the cheapest fix first. Change the air filter and then replace the coolant temp sensor. Then perform another ODBII scan. Let the scan be your guide to any repairs to avoid buying parts you don't need.

Hi i have a 99 hyundia elantra my check engine light is on the codes are p1624,p0137,p0732and p0740 are these codes connected or different problems

As for p1624 this code is for the accent only.
p1613 means the same thing but for the elantra, the
code means malfunction indicator light(mil) signal
circuit input high volt. p0137 means ho2sensor high
voltage (fuel pressure out of range high) p0732 is a
transmission code. It means that due to a malfunction in the trans. circuit, the trans. will operate in limp mode meaning you have reverse and
one forward gear in this case 2nd gear. That brings
us to p0740 this code indicates a malfunction with
the damper clutch control solenoid at the trans. this
would cause the p0732 limp mode. But if your car
is not showing any of these problems, the cause may
be the engine control module or the transmission
control module. But this would have to be checked
with the proper test scanner. Hope this helps.

From cold start engine warms to quater temp then cuts out leave to cool then will restart and warm up to normal running temp and stays running well after that till next cold start any ideas? the car is a...

Does the Check Engine light come ON when this happens? Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. Otherwise, guesswork. I have MANY ideas that could send you on a wild goose chase. I strongly suspect EMS (Engine Management System) sensor beginning to malfunction as it warms up. First strong suspicion is the crank position sensor (CKP) - however, usually always sets a DTC (i.e., P0335, P0336). The next suspicion is the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. The ECM uses this sensor's signal to adjust fuel, timing, engine RPM, etc based on engine temp. If malfunctioning at a particuar point during engine warm up, it could be telling the ECM the temperature is LOWER or HIGHER than it ACTUALLY is, resulting in the ECM to increase fuel (flood it) or give it LESS fuel (starve it). If this malfunction lasts long enough, the ECM will usually set a DTC for that sensor circuit, either a Range/Performance code, or a "LOW Input" or "HIGH Input" code.

No Heat

hi this sounds like the elec operated coolant control valve has failed? common fault on ford models however to confirm this? if you warm engine to normal then turn temp setting to full hot do not put fan on yet! locate the heater hoses from engine to point they go into bulkhead of engine bay? feel each hose for heat ? if one is warm/hot and other much cooler/cold ? then cooler valve is not opening so coolant can flow thro heater matrix inside car understand?? unfortunate;y this valve is not servicable but is easy to change and not too expensive ? its location is normally at point prior to entering car interior and you will find it if you follow heater hoses? it may well be in bay below the grill below w/screen is normally plastic renewal will be apparent when you see it ? hope this helps ? just one point all above is on assumption you have checked radiator coolant level is topped up ?? if not this will also give no heat thro heater ? if very low
