1991 Range Rover transmission problem

At 4000 + RPM and near 50 MPH, my 1991 Range Rover automatic transmission doesn’t shift to the next possible gear. I understand I could have a transmission problem; however is there other minor part in the engine (like the vacuum system) that could potentially cause this problem? Thanks

Saturn Ion (2005) Automatic transmission solenoid

The speed control sensor will cause that and it makes it so it will stay in second gear until you can get to repair shop. Check out youtube and put your problem and see if anyone fixed it

Transmission trouble?

is rpm at 4 means rpm at 4000. if so assuming everything is okey in the transmission. check your Vehicle Speed Sensor it looks like your not getting the signal which tells you computer to shift at overdrive when speed is over 50mph.

Automatic, V-6, ideal RPM at 70 MPH?

Sounds like the transmission is not shifting into a higher gear. 2,500 to 3,000 rpm would be more realistic for a highway cruising speed. The higher rpm may not be a big deal as far as the engine is concerned but it will hit you pocket book pretty good when you loose the mpg that you should get. I would personally either limit your driving until it can be checked or at least slow down so that the RPMs are in the range listed above. Let me know what they find, my curiosity is peaked!

My 1991 240sx is at my local mechanics shop. He is getting abnormal transmission pressure readings and has not been able to diagnose the problem or has not tried hard enough. The care does not shift into...

The 240sx auto transmission will not shift from 1st to 2nd until going about 25 mph with gentle throttle (35mph with full throttle). I do not recall what engine RPM this corresponds to, but i know it always seemed high.

As for the hard shift two second, there is rectangular module that is inside the driver side fender next to the ignition coil that is sometimes unplugged to get a more "sporty" feel out of the automatic transmission. Check that plug and if it is unplugged, plug it back in.

On cold days, temp takes miles to come up and the transmission will not shift into top gear until then. Limits speed to around 50 MPH until this happens, not wanting to run the engine at a high RPM. Today,...

Yes this sounds like a thermostat problem, replace the thermostat, Delay on transmission shift is a common problem, you could try changing transmission oil.

Transmission shifts early (Is this normal?)

the reason it might be shifting so early is because of the gear ratio in the rear end of the truck. it is common in the 2 wheel drive basic model pickup because they were designed to work not travel.

You could have a bad valvebody in your transmission or a bad pump in your transmission or your clutches are bad. In any case you have a bad transmission. Please rate my answer.
