Is changing the waste gate all you did? Did you change anything in the air intake system? You must be very careful altering the boost pressure on turbo cars. You can cause the engine to detonate and blow a piston. I'm not sure what the rcommended boost pressure for your model is, but it is usually between 1.5 and 2.5 bar.

sounds like you have a problem. alot of times the coolant temp switch will cause the idle to go up and down. asfar as the speedo, I believe it works off a switch instad of the cable. this I would take to dealer. missing speed sensor is not good. have it checked at dealer.

1998 Impreza 2.0 non turbo wont idle properly


Lots of things it could be. Egr valve sticking, a hose that came off, a bad sensor for airflow, or even throttle position sensor.

Intermittent nature seems to point to something sticky or loose.

Jumping or jerking when i accelerate


I had a turbo renault , I cranked the wastegate down to increase boost and had same problem.
There was a sensor that cut the ignition if the turbo was over pressuring. Was a pretty violent jerking, felt like it was tearing the engine mounts out.

Help with 97 sti non turbo dosn't appear 2 b using any oil but after traveling 15 or 20 minutes at 90 or 100 kms stop 2 idle burning oil smell & a bit of smoke appears 2 b frm lower back of motor - not...


All fixed now ! Problem was oil leaking from bell housing when garage took everything apart and inspected the rear main & torque converter seals. Found also split boot on RH inner CV joint. All in all, a lot of time spent but all now ok.
