Are you talking about the tank itself or the filler point, it could be a blocked vent to the tank ?

SOURCE: Subaru Impreza gas cap door won't open

If there is one - In trunk - directly behind the gas filler door - behind trunkliner (carpet)
The cable should not have any problems... use a partner to hold the door release and try and pry it open with your fingers.
The spring popper may be bad.
Try this if you dont have an assistant :D

I had this problem with my STI -- easy to fix by bending the little metal on the inside of the fuel door that provides the spring action to open the door. 5 second fix

hi it can really only be two things, first is the fuel sender on the pump inside the tank it could be stuffed or sticking causing a false reading, second it can also be a faulty fuel gauge on the dash.

Petrol tank leaking.. How do I best remove the tank to fix it?!

Hopefully the gas tank has very little fuel left in it. make sure first that it is not coming from the fuel line which goes in from the top of the tank. always disconnect the battery cables when working around gasoline, of course do not smoke if you do, and do not do it where there are source of spark around such as electric motor and other electrical device that give off spark. Gas fumes are heavier than air and linger close to the ground. Safety first.

Not getting gas to engine, car will not run

If you don't hear a buzzing sound coming from the gas tank when you turn on the ignition, the pump is shot even tho there is voltage going to it.

Wheres the fuel pump on a 1992 impreza import?

It is in tank. Take out back seat squabs and rear luggage carpet. There should be a removeable panel usually black on the floor. the pump and sender are under this. Change pump for a Walbro 255 LpH but leave the original filter sock. It is better than the Walbro one.
