Question about 1999 Volkswagen Cabrio
Bought this car last may and have done some repairs (brakes, exhaust...) but now the top will not go down. Sounds like the motor is working when I press the button for the roof to retract but nothing happens. In addition the rear window defrost does not seem to work. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.... I too have the same problem, after investigating it further I realized that the hydrolic cylinders were leaking. You should check your fluid in the reservoir in the trunk. Also lift the back seat and check for fluid leaking. I have not repaired this as VW wants $600 per cylinder plus installation. Installation isn't a problem but nobody else seems to have the proper hydrolic.
The hydraulic pump may have gone out in order to put the top down or up you will have to lower it by hand first under the top motor there is a t- handled valve loosen that to bleed air pressure then you should be able to manually lower or raise the top

I would do a good search on the inter-net for the parts. I found autohausaz.com to be helpful with VW parts.
