Aftermarket double din install having problems with int. dash lights,locks

read (you meant main harness to radio sub harness.)
and car may have 5 or more harness for 5 or more very complex radio head end options new,so only the real service manual covers all that for sure,or if lucky 2nd fiddle here.

There is a feed from your dash lights which is supposed to go to the aftermarket radio which will dim the unit when you turn your lights on. Its possible you have incorrectly wired this or not wired it at all.

Have experienced technition just remove aftermarket alarm from system,

your radio/dash opening DIN size is what they call double DIN, to get the right unit fopr this u will need to know if you have a Facory Infinity premium sound system, it makes a diff in the model f the in dash units, here is a link to a site that has a selection of in dash DVD players for your double DIN dash.

i have a 2002 ford escape and i bought a double din radio and it did not fit and found out it is actually a din and 3/4 with out serious mods (cutting a bigger hole in dash) double din wont fit i bought a single din stereo and a din a 3/4 dash kit works fine

I have read allot of horror stories about aftermarket installs in late model cars, no starts and the like, I advise aginst it.

Metra makes a preamp harness that you can use if you have the partial Bose system. My A4 had that (where the front speakers were run off of the headunit with speaker-level feed, but the deck put a line level signal to a rear amp to power the speakers). This harness would let you use the aftermarket deck with your factory speakers, if you have the partial Bose system. Best bet is to do a Google search for "Metra 2001 Passat" or something like that and I'm sure it'll show up.
