I've never heard of it being tested that way. It's tested by checking pressure on the fuel line near the injector's fuel rail. If you're in the Denver Colorado area, bring it by and I'll check it for you. Otherwise, your local autozone should check it for you for free as well.

The performance of an electric fuel pump can be tested several ways. The easiest and most effective of which is to test fuel pressure and volume at the vehicles fuel pressure test port. Normally located on the fuel injection rail. A more direct method would be breaking the fuel line somewhere between the pump and the fuel filter and placing your gage there for a test.

Can I use an external fuel pump on this vehicle it has throttle body injection and has a 5.0 motor I have an external fuel pump it pumps 1.0 GPM at 35 PSI

im guessing here , but what im thinking your asking is, "hey my intank fuel pump has gone bad can I substitute an external fuel pump for it on my throttle body injected vehicle " ??? does this sound close ?
if so then heres what I know about em.
the intank pumps don't require a fuel circulation loop because they use the fuel in the tank to cool the pump at low flow times (idle) , if you were to use an external pump it [pressure would have to be close to the intank model (50 to 80 psi) and in the interest of safety all the connections would have to be swaged or threaded ,no hose barbs and clamps also if there isn't already installed a fuel return line would need to be plumbed in as well or pump will overheat and leak fuel , as well the old pump would have to be removed from tank as fuel flow wouldn't be enough at full throttle thru the dead pump and then a new outlet pipe would have to be fabbed up , so to answer your question if I got it right ? is yes but why would you want to you'd end up changing so much stuff it be easier to just get a new pump !!

Are all fuel pumps from 97 Pontiac grand prix compatible with fuel pump for a 97 Pontiac grand prix GTP super

No.
The only pump that will work in a GTP model is the pump for that model. And there are more than one tag number for the GTP.
Flow rates can be anything between 20 and 60 GPM.
You have to match the tag code for your car.

Hi. I've been having hard starts a 2006 Toyota D4D 2KD pickup. This only happens after parking overnight. It starts quite fine during th day. We've changed heater plugs, fuel pump n had th injector n...

how is the fuel pressure and is the no return valve working ? you can test if the non return valve is work buy leaving over night or say 12 hours and checking the valve on the injector line rack there should be a valve. if no valve use a spanner and just undo the pipe to the rack if it has pressure its fine and has pressure, if no pressure means the system is leaking back into the tank. this can make starting issues, as on start the pump will engage and when pressure is right you should hear a little thud that means its up to pressure , if the pump keeps going then for the first set on startup you are just pumping air out of the fuel system

Hi, try installing a relay to supply current to the pump, you might have to install a new off/on switch to activate pump with relay(safety measure). Hope this helps with problem.

Help... I have a 92 350 chevy truck that will not start. I have replace the ECM, coil, ignition mod., the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump. When i turn th Ignition switch on th fuel pump doesnt come on....

you said you tried applying direct voltage to the pump? proceed to remove the fuel tank and check the harness inside for continuity, both wires going to the pump itself. If wires prove to be ok , then proceed to replace pump .

MY GRAND AM STARTS AND DIES, WHATS WRONG WITH IT?

You did the parts replacement yourself?

If so, all your saying, is you think or suspect
something & started changing parts

No part is ever replaced, until all testing necessary
is complete

In order to do any testing, you have to understand
the product & usually need reference material, service
or diagnostic manuals to follow charts or wiring daigrams

A fuel filter is replaced based on time, measured in years
& also mileage. So that was a no brainer.If it isn't 3 or 4
years old,it isn't the problem

With the TPS, you need to know how old it is & it has to be
tested, period,to know if it works,& that may require an
oscilloscope,not just a volt meter.

Have you had it checked for codes at all?
That is where you always start.

Given the age, 1987, what about a worn timing chain
or a worn out fuel pump. You checked fuel pressure?

What about the Idle Air Control Solenoid?

U can try that fuel filter. Or try to put gas directly to th carburator. Or try start fluid. To see if the problem is not gas in the system
