Question about 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

1 Answer

2004 Chevy Silverado HD 2500

I have a 2004 chevy 2500 HD that keeps giving 2 codes P0342 and P0343 I replaced the camshaft position sensor and it ran fine for a day now as it sat in idle for approx 30 minutes, the engine revved up and the check engine light appeared only for a brief moment and went off. Any clue what this could be ?

Thank you for your rapid response however, I am aware of what the camshaft position sensor does, And it's function. Just not real sure on why I am still having problems with my check engine light coming on and the unexplained acceleration of my truck when it is parked.. I have also already checked the wiring and all the ground wires, and found nothing to be wrong with any of them. Only difference is this time my doors have not started locking and unlocking as I drive down the road. Thank you very much I appreciate any input I can get in this matter.

On many engines with distributor less ignition systems and sequential fuel injection, a camshaft position sensor is used to keep the engine's control module informed about the relative position of the crankshaft. By monitoring cam position (which allows the control module to determine when the intake and exhaust valves are opening and closing), the control module can use the cam position sensor's input along with that from the crankshaft position sensor to determine which cylinder in the engine's firing sequence is approaching top dead center. This information is then used by the engine control module to synchronize the pulsing of sequential fuel injectors so they match the firing order of the engine. On some applications, input from the camshaft position sensor is also required for ignition timing.
The camshaft position sensor may be magnetic or Hall effect, and mounted on the timing cover over the camshaft gear, on the end of the cylinder head in an overhead cam application, or in a special housing that replaces the distributor (in the case of some of the GM applications). Operation and diagnosis is essentially the same as that for a crankshaft position sensor.

Re  check the wire harness and the sensor installation to the camshaft sensor in Bank #1 which is where the #1 cylinder is. Good luck and hope this adds some light to you question, keep me posted and be glad to help.

I have a 2001 BMW 740il. Error code per Autozone is P0343. Can you tell what that is and how to fix it. Thanks IM

P0343 - Camshaft Position Sensor 'A' Circuit High InputI'm surprised Autozone didn't give you a printout of the possible causes or tell you what they were. These are possible causes but it could also be the wiring in the system too.

Crankshaft position sensor

yes, have it replaced. it can cause your symptoms. This is the great thing about codes. It definitely does not point to a bad fuel pump.
