Sounds like he may have pinched a wire or hooked it up backwards or has the power wire touching the starter housing.

Connected the wires up wrong to the starter. The wires where crossed telling the system to start. Also if both the positive and negative battery wires where not removed this would have caused the problem also. You need to always remove both positive and negative

My SUV sometimes makes a scraping noise when I start it. Could something be loose on the starter? How would I repair it?

sounds like your starter is getting bad. If the starter was recently replaced or taken off, it may need shims. Sometimes even when a starter is new, it may still need shims to line the teeth up with the flywheel teeth. If your starter wasn't touched, than it is starting to go. It's the pendex in the starter. Hope this helps. If you're changing it yourself and need help, I can walk you through it. Cheers from Nova Scotia!

198 isuzu rodeo starter clicks but doesn't engage and lights do not dim. alarm chirped unlocking. why wont it start?

Your battery has enough amps and voltage to power up the accessories, but does not have enough amps to engage the starter motor. The click you here at the starter is the solenoid trying to allow the starter motor to turn. Either replace the battery and/or check the battery connections for corroded terminals.

I have a 1999 isuzu rodeo 2WD 3.2L V6. What are the steps in replacing my starter. My car is stranded and i need to try to replace it myself?

The repair manual book says first disconnect the battery , then lift the car to have more space to work on it make sure that is secure if you liftit ,remove the nut to Starter ,also nut to solenoid cable ,or if you think it is easier take off starter first and then after remove nuts to starter and solenoid ,then you ready to install you new or rebuilt starter ,,good luck

How do you replace the starter on a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo 4cyl 2WD?

Remove the battery earth cable. Engage parking brake and chock the wheels. The starter is on the lower rear left hand side of the engine. Remove the starter supply cable by undoing the 13mm nut on the rear of the solenoid. Unclip the start wire on the side of the solenoid by squeezing and then pulling the connector plug. Undo the mounting bolt on the top of the starter first. and remove. Then the bottom one. Doing it this way round will make it easier to undo the bolts by hand once loosened.
Pull the starter to the front of the car and remove.

need more of a discription but right off my head a couple things

if its big its the starter plate if its small its the starter gear

drive shaft
the other is called a spline connecting drive shaft to throw out bearing you need to send out whole drive shaft to get replaced cause these require balancing they connect by u-joint
if they dont know what a drive shaft components are then you will need specialist to do whole drive shaft correctly
