Question about 1989 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

Horn, interior lights, stereo won't work

I have a 1989 chev suburban and for some reason my STEREO, horn and interior light don't work. I have checked all the fuses but am still stuck. I have a 1988 suburban. When I press the horn button the interior light under the dash lights-up and I can hear a buzzing sound. The horn will not sound. The radio will change channels to 106.5 if it is on. If the door is opened, the radio will also change channels. I can turn the light switch knob to turn on the interior light and the radio will also change to 106.5. My son has a 1984 pick-up. It has developed the same problem but his radio is not affected. His horn will not sound. The fuse for the horn and dimmer is blown. He put n a new fuse and it blew right away. When he pushes the horn button, you can hear a buzzing and the interior light comes on. I will be checking my fuse tomorrow. It sounds like a grounding issue.

SOURCE: can i put a 5 speed transmission from a newer

you can do anything you want, just depends on how much time/work you want to invest. You can bolt a dodge motor up to a cadalic tranni but alot of fabrication will need to be done. Now the engine bolt patteren for the 5 speed and the auto (I assume it's an auto in the 1990) will be the same. But you'll need to add clutch, depending on tranni length maybe driveshafts and even transfercase.

Pontiac sunfire interior lights, horn and blinkers do not work

They are talking about the body control module, but I'm not sure they are right. The horn does not need the bcm to work. See diagram below. The horn relay is energized by the horn switch on the steering wheel. The switch also signals the bcm, but that is not used to power the horn.

The turn signal does not use the bcm at all. The problem there may be the switch or the wire. See diagram below.

The instrument lights DO REQUIRE the bcm, but can be rewired to bypass the bcm. The gray wire from the bcm in the diagram below powers the instrument lights. You can cut the gray wire and splice it to the brown wire from the multi function switch. Find the brown wire coming out the bottom of the steering column, skin some insulation off the wire and verify it has 12 volts when the parking lights are on. Do not cut the brown wire--just attach the gray wire to it. You will not be able to dim the lights, but they will come on.

89 Ford tempo won't turn over. Silinoid rapidly clicks and interior lights dim. I have cleaned all connections that I can find. I got it to turn over once , and start but not again since then. Also...

You might have a bad solenoid. I would try a new one. Or else what about your battery? Are you certain it is at full charge? Battery cables good and connected tight everywhere? If battery and cables are good, then it's probably the solenoid or the starter giving you problems.

The horn is not related at all. Usually a horn problem is with the switch in the steering wheel, but if you have an air bag, you'd better let someone fix or check it who has experience working around them and how to disable and handle them. I'm sure there are videos on youtube, that detail all these procedures- you can find almost anything on the internet, almost everything, might even be something for your Tempo.
The horn itself is always at the front of the car, maybe hidden behind the bumper, or on a brace around the radiator, behind the grill, just look in those places, but 9 times out of 10, the horn itself is good and it's the wheel switch or wiring or horn relay that is the problem.

On my 2001 chevy suburban the horn is not working

First solution is to check the fuse. If the fuse is good then check your connection to the horn.
If you have a test light insert probe into the end of the wire and then have someone blow the horn. if the light lights then the factory horn is no good. you can probably find one at a local junk yard for about $5.00

Horn wont work.i check the fuse in the door and

Maybe horn became unplugged. Put 12 v power to horn make sure horn works. Put test light on terminal on horn have someone press the horn button, if light comes on and horn does not blow you may need new horn. if light does not come on you may have bad contact at horn button, blown fuse, broken wire, bad horn relay or possibly just a bad ground.

Horn not working

Usually a wire straight from the fuse box, check the fuse box for a blown fuse, if this is not the case, follow the positive wire leading to the horn back to where it hits the wiring harness, it should tie off into another system, such as the interior lighting, radio, or cigarette lighter
