Is there a belt or sensor that controls the power as well as the transmission?

Well we were towing a camper home last night and the rpms shot up and then the car stalled . When it restarted it would not move forward or in reverse and the battery died soon after restarting. Then would only make a clicking sound after that. Just replaced the engine two months ago and this is the first time we have towed anything with the new engine.

  • mminard615 Jun 02, 2009

Can this be repaired or will I need to replace the transmission? Is it possible that they could have installed the new engine improperly causing this to happen?

The torque converter must be prperly engaged in the front trans pump as the engine and trans are mated. It can be assembled without being ptoperly seated and the front pump may turn just by the pressure od mis match, but it would not last, causing ffront pumpdamage.

Yes, it can be repired if this is the failure, and yes, assemby error is likely the cause. Front pump will show signs of contact friction by scoring or hest marking. Good luck.

On, this may sound crazy but my Chevy blazer doesn't want to engage the transmission sometimes unless you pump the gas pedal while in gear. Then works good

No that doesn't sound crazy at all . Given the electronics on vehicles today . What year is your blazer ? For the transmission to shift or engage gears the PCM/TCM which ever controls the trans in your blazer ,inputs from various sensors are needed. One being the TPS - throttle position sensor . Stepping on the gas pedal changes voltage signals to the PCM - engine computer . If you hooked up a volt meter on the signal wire to the PCM from the TPS at idle you would see around one volt an gas pedal on the floor around 4 1/2 - 5 volts . Check the connectors at the transmission an the PCM for being tight . Having a scan tool that reads sensor data hooked up to look at sensor parameters could be a big help .

I have a 2003 Chevy blazer xtreme 4.3 v6 automatic transmission and its giving me some issues with the console shifter and ignition system! Every other time I put the blazer in park and try to take the key...

Fixing stuck key in your gmc envoy same as a blazer !
Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator
If the vehicle is equipped with a floor mounted console gear shifter, it has a ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column as an added safety feature. The ignition lock cylinder control actuators purpose is to prevent the steering wheel from being locked when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of a ignition lock cylinder control acutator, and a park position switch that is located in the A/T shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control acutator contains a pin that is spring loaded out to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when vehicle transmission is not in the Park position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the Park position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.

Transmission will not shift out of 2 gear

That code means that the sensor is either shorting out or opening all the way. The signal to the computer is being lost. Check the wires to the sensor and if they are good and the connection is tight and there is no corrosion, you need to replace the sensor. It is located on the shaft from the transmission near the output

Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch

Not so baffling given that Chrysler has major issues with TCM units. Reset the whole thing with a power disconnect and see what it does.

Only getting 9 mpg on 01 blazer

Do you have a check engine light on? Is the engine getting to operating temp? Is air filter clean? Is the fan clutch free? Does engine idle and run smooth? Does the transmission have all 4 forward gears including tcc engagement? Are the tires the correct size?

Will not shift into 2nd gear on a automatic trans

Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmision is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the underhood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.

What is "limp-home mode" ? This is a fault mode in which the transmission either loses electrical power or the PCM deactivates all of the electronics. The transmission will default to max line pressure. The driver will have Reverse and 3rd, with manual 2nd available by putting the gearshift in 2 or 1 (doesn't matter). 1st, 4th, and TCC lockup will not be available. It will not hurt the car to drive it like this for short periods, but use manual 2nd to get the car moving, and be aware that the trans will generate more heat than normal while operating in limp-home mode due to increased torque converter slippage during 2nd gear starts and no lockup in 3rd gear.

Thank you for using fixya and good luck

Transmission,gear shifting

Your blazer's transmission is controled by the ECM. You could have a bad speed sensor or wire harness. best thing to do is have your blazer scaned like at Auto Zone since they do it there for free and keep an eye on your transmission fluid. Don't want to burn out your trany.
Good luck and hope this helps. Ps you can alway try diconnecting your battery for a few seconds with your ignition key's on run postion.

If it shifts from 1st to 3rd gear also, then you need to have it rebuilt.
I lost reverse and 2nd gear in mine and I had it rebuilt.
Works great now and for the low price of only $1600,,,LOL
