Question about 1987 Chevrolet R30

1 Answer

87 chevy r30 trans doesn't want to shift and slips

The truck runs great for a while, like 40 miles, then starts slipping and not wanting to shift into Drive. Fluid looks clean, this trans only has 36,000 miles on it original, it came from an air force base. Truck also does not start until the engine cools completely, but runs perfect, while running. (except the tranny of course)

Transmission shifts hard

I would stop using it immediately

Any trans issues, is like you having a heart attack

You drive 5 miles one time & you could be out
$3000.00 ,in a heart beat

Assuming the Tach doesn't flair, indicating slipping,
you diagnose any driveability issues with the engine ,
that effect shift strategy, then move on to the transaxle
diagnoses

If it slips already your done,it has to come out

Transmission slipping

Did you check the trans oil level. When you changed
the RADIATOR you will loose some trans oil.
If the transmission oil was low when you changed
the radiator it's lower now. Check it now.
Now, if thats not the problem. With that many miles
have you changed the trans oil lately theirs a filter
above the trans oil pan that may be pluged up change
it and the oil. Also, buy a can of trans X it's the only fix
in a can stuff I"LL use.

Trans. problem

3speed or 4 speed? does it slip or just not shift. Might be old seals or a bad governor. Try using lubegard trans additive. Try that for a week if it doesn't work, replace the governor valve.
