Stuttering while driving

It will start up great, then run okay until I get going around 35 to 40 mph then it will start to stutter and the check engine light will come on. I can speed through it but I would like to fix the problem so it doesn't cost me more in the long run. I have changed the oil and installed new sparkplugs recently but haven't done anything with the auto transmission or transfer case which is my guess where the problem is. Thanks for your help.

If you stop at autozone, or Pepboys, I am told they will perform free scan for codes, which should point you in right direction, but if not, get back to us with codes found for more advice.

When I start for the first time for the day, why does it stutter for 5-10 minutes until the engine warms up?

Injectors may be leaking as this could clear up after running a while and burning off excess fuel.

Wow! The engine is running like **** with misfire codes? I think that's what you were trying to say. First, stop all the "miricle cures in a can"...fuel injector cleaners, K&N filters and the such. They will only do more harm than good. Next, replace your distributor. Honda igniters are notorious for causing the symptoms (and codes) you are describing and they are only serviced in a complete distributor assembly.

The service engine light came on while I was going up a steep grade. It's been stuttering sometimes when it is shifting. it's a 99 GST automatic. Is it ok to drive until Monday?

Take it to a auto parts store like autozone and ask them to read the code for you. Most likely you will be okay but they will let you know what the problem is and how serious it is.

This is what you need to do, change the plug wires, because if there is a bad wire you would definitely experiences sputter or a stutter, so do the plug wires and at the same time do the spark plugs, this should take care of your problem. if not let me know and i will give you the next step

have you replaced your O2 censor yet? or changed your air filter lately. I know our avenger is pretty picky we had a dirty air filter once and it seemed like the O2 censor went out because it kept trying to shut off when the idle was lower. a new air filter did a bit for it then we got a censor reader that you plug into the brain box of the car or the cigarette lighter and it told us the O2 was out and our car was doing the low idle thing. after we fixed it no problems.
