Lost the key to truck, need the code.

My husband lost the key to his '98 Explorer, we can get a key for it, but we need the code to program it. We called a dealership, they said that Ford erases their codes after 10 years. There has to a way to find the code, can someone help figure out where?

Thanks frcs68, we called a locksmith already, they also need to get the code. Thank you emissionwiz, we bought it used, so that doesn't help us much, but we appreciate the help.

I am sorry you can no longer access the code unless the dealer who sold it still has the original paperwork, sorry about that.

My husband has a 2001 Ford Explorer that he lost the key has an after market alarm system and no one can make a transponder key that will work...what can we do?

You will need to prove ownership to an alarm installer so he can remove the alarm. You will need to buy a new alarm if you still want one in the SUV.

Once a new key is programmed, will an old key still work in a 2005 Chevy Malibu?

Not sure about Chevy's, but when my husband lost his keys for his Ford, he got a new key programmed, and when he found his "lost" key, it still worked. Try it. Don't think it will hurt it if it doesn't work, but check with a dealer.

Unfortunatley, most dealers keep a pretty tight lid on reprogramming the key fobs. You may find someone that had the software to do it, but chances are you will have to take your key in to have it flashed

How can i program my door lock code or find out what it is. on my 2000 limited edition explorer

  • Enter permanent factory code
  • Press the 1/2 button within 5 seconds to enter programming mode
  • Within 5 seconds enter new code, doors will lock, unlock to verify code, this erases previous codes remotes will also need to be programmed.
  • Insert key, turn ignition off-to- on eight times in succession, ending with key in on position doors will lock, unlock to verify in programming mode
  • Press any button on new remote, doors will lock, unlock to verify
  • Do the previous step with the second remote, doors will lock unlock to verify.
  • Turn ignition off. Doors will again lock, unlock to verify.
NOTE-I found that some Explorer/Mountaineers enter program mode after 5 times-not 8.

Here is the link for further info.

Your factory code is on a card in the owners manual. If that is lost, access the control module in the cargo area behind the left cover panel.

You MIGHT be able to see the code printed on it, or you might need to pull it out in order to see it.

I lost my keys for my 2001 ford explorer and it has a chip in the key and ignition an i want to figure out how to bypass the chip in the ignition so i can use my regular key for the explorer wich isnt...

There no way runs through your computer, your truck is in theft mode, most lock smiths have the computer to program a chip to your pag system, you have a key already won't be that much to do.

I lost my keys to my husband Chevy Tahoe 98. What do I do?? Can anyone help? I live in Germany...

You'll have to contact your nearest GM dealership and have them Code new keys for the truck. Can be a little costly but its the only way. The keys and FOB's are VIN specific.
