Grinding noise while driving.

2000 blazer 91000 miles. uneven grinding noise while driving, always when going over 15 miles an hour and past 1500 rpm. it sounds like its coming from the front of the car, either from engine bay or under the car. engine runs fine and transmission shifts perfect. any ideas?

Possible causes:

a) a brake disc shield is too close to the disc, and it's coming into contact in the circumstances you outline

b) pebbles stuck between the disc shield and the disk

c) dried out wheel bearings

d) worn Universal Joints in the drive shafts

e) worn A/C pump

f) worn alternator

g) worn water pump

Is the noise still present above 15 miles an hour and past 1500 rpm when the clutch is disengaged (i.e. gearbox in neutral?). The answer to this question may help you to pinpoint the source. I know it's stating the obvious but the fact that you're hearing a grinding sound means it's caused by something that is moving relative to something else. Again this should help narrow down the cause.

Common problem is left or right side hub bearing which are your front wheel bearings, just not serviceable only replaced as a unit ,a good test for that problem is to get up to speed of noise then bank car to left and right (where road conditions permit) and take note of noise if it changes either way you most likely have a bad bearing, banking car to left would lighten load on left if noise fades that would mean left side is most likely prob and same for banking right meaning possiable r/s bearing problem, to eliminate engine possibility just get up to speed then shift into N and let engine idle while going over 15 mph and see if noise changes.

Sounds like your car is in the limp home mode. When the computer in your car fails it goes into a limp home mode that lets you drive it home at a slow speed. Sounds like when you changed the battery you may have damaged the computer. Take it to the dealer to have it checked out.

2000 Chevy Blazer 4x4...started making a horrible loud noise after my cruise control went out. I have recently replaced my hub and the brake pads and the CV axle. The noise comes and goes and only happens...

does it get louder above 45-60mph? and much quieter at low speeds. It could be wheel bearings, a rear differential or front differential. If its a grinding humming noise its wheel bearings, listenin to see if theyre coming from the front or rear, left or right, or both when your driving to know what wheel bearing are bad. If its a whinning noise, its probably a differential. check and listen to hear if its coming from the front or rear. Also, check for loose plastic around the wheels. Lastly check your tires for uneven or choppy wear. move your hands front to back on the top of the tire. does it feel really choppy and rough, maybe you just need new tires

Blazer transmission not shifting properly beetween 1 and 2

Your going to have to get the ECM scanned, Auto Zone scan's for free and most garage now will scan for $10.00 to $15.00 since they all have the scanners now and need the business.
You could have a Vehicle Velocity Sensor (V V S)  going bad or the wire harness it self. The V.V.S tells the ECM how fast the drive shaft is rotating and calculate's what gear it should be in relative with the engine speed and throttle position, and transmission fluid pressure.
Regardless you need the Blazer scanned to pin point why your transmission is shifting the way it is. Could be as simple as time for transmission oil and filter change for $125.00 or a loose wire harness.
Check your transmission fluid and try not to run the blazer to hard, to replace the transmission start at $1,900.00 for a rebuilt.
Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted

Any check engine light on? I would check the TPS or throttle position sensor. Spray some carb and choke cleaner in the throttle body while the car is running. Good luck
