The P1698 code means that no digital data is being received by the powertrain controller from the transmission control module, located on the right inner fender. The manual says to check the CCD bus wires between the module and the rest of the system using the Chrysler diagnostic readout box. But if you don't have one then I think you can do the same thing by measuring for continuity (near 0 resistance) between pin 4 of its plug and pin 11 of the data link plug under the dash or pin 59 of the powertrain controller plug.
Then check the resistance between pin 43 if its plug and pin 3 of the data link connector or pin 60 of the powertrain controller plug. The powertrain controller is on the opposite side of the engine compartment on the left inner fender. These module plugs are held in place by a bolt. If the continuity between the transmission and the powertrain CCD wires checks to be ok, then according to the manual the trans controller should be replaced.
That is my analysis of what you report. You may have been told to replace the body control module erroneously because the code for that is P1695. If the independent garage was using the check engine light as its diagnostic methodology those problems both give a code 66, so they may guessed that it was the body module as being the faulty one. Problems with starting and with gauges are often related to this data bus communication system so all your issues seem to point this way. You might also, when checking the wires, also verify that they are not shorted to ground.

1997 Venture ABS light is on but has no code reading

Not all OBD-2 scanners are created equal. Most only read power-train (engine/transmission) codes and are not capable of reading ABS codes. Some scanners even have a specific button you have to press to get ABS codes. Try a different scanner. I know places like Auto Zone will scan codes for free but not every store has the same reader. The AZ nearest to me has the ABS capable scanner while the one on the other side of town can't read ABS codes.

I have a 2004 kia rio cinco that I need to know how to know how to check the codes on, how do I do it? I also need to know how to turn the check engine light off. How do you do it?

If you don't have a code scanner, you can take it to most auto parts stores and have them read. Since you have a post 1996 vehicle you have a OBD2 system and can use about any OBD2 compliant error code scanners. The socket is located to the right of the steering wheel, under the dash lip.

You can reset the check engine light with the code scanner when you read the codes.

Check engine light coming on

your engine computer has set a code that would reveal a fault detected if you have the computer scanned. This is done by hooking up a scanner to the OBDII port, located under the dash somewhere near your knees. A retail auto parts store, like Advance Auto or Auto Zone will scan it for you at no charge. Get the actual code (or codes) and report back to here for help in solving the problem.

2004 dodge neon the engine light come son and the car starts sputtering and acting like it doe snot want to go at times. What coudl this be ?

Could be a lot of things. With the check engine light on, that would be the first to address. Most auto parts stores will not charge you to use a code scanner. Call around find one nearby that does it free, and hook the OBDII scanner up to your car. The port to plug into is under the dash near the steering wheel. Once you have your code, come on back and post them in here, and we will let know know what to do.

Thanks for using FixYa, I look forward to helping out with the codes.

Some Auto Part Stores will check your car for trouble codes for free. A scanner tool will check your computer memory to see what codes are being set which cause the check engine light to come on.
