PICKUP DOWN SHIFTS WHEN ACCELERATED

2005 DODGE 4X4 2500 DIESEL AUTO TRANS. FROM A STOP WHEN ACCELERATED PICKUP DOWN SHIFTS. YOU HAVE TO ACCELERATE VERY SLOWLY UNTIL IT FINALLY SHIFTS. ALSO DOES THIS WHEN PASSING. IF YOU ACCELERATE TO PASS IT DOWN SHIFTS AND HAS NO POWER. THE REST OF THE TIME IT SHIFTS FINE.

the throttle position sensor may be "noisey" causing computer to think your are accel. that unlocks the torque conveter. try a new one
also make sure the brake lights on coming on and off when driving that will do it to.

Auto trans will not downshift automaticly


Educated guess: Sounds like a shift solenoid or a speed sensor gone bad. Search a Ram truck owner forum (start witha  Google search) to see if it is a common problem.
