Question about 2000 Hyundai Accent

Problems with the starter,it wont start when the engine is cold

The car is runing great,but like i said when i stop the car at night and i go the next day to started i wont start the firs try, it wuold after two o tree times, star doing that a couple weeks ago, my car is a hiunday accent 2000 gs,thanks for any advised or help that you can give me.

    is a petro 1500 engine,and yes the engine spins over ok but wont star the first time,and yes stars ok the rest of the day, yes i know its strange..my mechanic is experimenting on it...

    comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control

    Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes

    recorded/set in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what, if any codes are set, then we

    can go from there.

    Clarification needed. Do you mean the engine will turn over (crank) but won't start/run? OR, do you mean when you go to start it, NOTHING happens?

    is this petro or diesel 2000 engine ? are you saying starter spins engine over ok but will only eventually fire up after 2 o3 tries ? then starts ok rest of the day ?

The problem you describe has many possible causes (usually an EMS (Engine Management System) sensor and/or circuit) which are most difficult to diagnose without a Check Engine light coming ON. Does the Check Engine light come ON when this happens? Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what, if any codes are set, then we
can go from there. If the Check Engine light didn't come ON at any time, this becomes guess work & that can get expensive... suspected part after part after part. Since you mentioned the problem doesn't occur until the vehicle sits overnight, I suspect a sensor is starting to malfunction when it cools down, or connections to the fuel pump, crank position sensor going bad, oxidation of electrical wiring/connectors/pins, etc, etc. Sometimes simply disconnecting a component and reconnecting it solves the problem - difficult to impossible to say with any accuracy/certainty.

The key turn but the car dont start, but when i kick start it it start and i wont have a problem the hole day starting only in the morning


The battery needs to be replaced. After the first start in the morning the battery gets charged and the engine is also "hot" making it easier for the starter motor to turn it over. Therefor less current is drawn from the battery and you get a start every time. In the morning the engine is cold making it difficult to turn. The battery rested the night loosing some charge and is also cold which affects the current it can deliver at that stage. With the cold engine it is not able to turn it fast enough to get it started. A new battery will solve your problem.

Won't start


thaw it out then run engine and then with engine warmish cover engine with some old blankets and some cardboard under the car to stop the cold air flow around the bottom of the engine ,or a little special parrafin heater under the engine

I doubt it.
If the engine is cranking, the starter is working.
If the engine will not start, you need to know if you have spark at the plugs, fuel pressure at the injectors, and normal compression.

Engine turns over but will not start only when engine is warm


my car has the same exact problem!! i have 2 pop the clutch 2 get it started when it is hot. Mine starts great when its cold or hasn't ran 4 awhile but when we are driving around for more than about 20 min in it when we stop it doesn't start at all. it wont even turn over. so i have 2 have my husband push it while i pop the clutch & then it starts & runs fine till the next time we turn it off. its not a battery problem as we'v replaced the battery, & the starter & the alternater are fine as we'v had them tested. hopefully someone that knows & has fixed this problem can answer this mystery problem!! hopefully some1 can :D

After driving car for one houe, making two stops, shutting off engine and starting it up again (no problems), returning home, parking car and shutting off engine. Went back to start car less than 5 min....


You say it started up no problems? Then it wouldn't start? What did it do when it wouldn't start? Did it turn over, did it do nothing/something?
From just what little info I have I tend to think it's a starter. It starts fine when it's cold but after the engine heats the starter to engine operating temperature the starter maybe starts to drag? not allowing it spin the engine fast enough to start it???

Last night my starter kept running whether the engine was on or off now my vehicle will not start.


check your starter teeth and the fly wheel teeth they both could be trashed now, im guessing that the starter silonoid went bad and caused the starter to try and turn the engine over even though it has been runing and when the engine was off this could be catastrouphic for the fly wheel teeth if the engine transmision was not in nuteral?

I would try to jump it to see if the starter engages and the engine runs, if it does you have a connection problem between the engine starter and the battery, if it does the same thing with cables then you will probably have to tow it in to the shop. I do not think your problem is related to cold weather, but it could very well be related to the check engine light. Exactly what the check engine light is on for I can not say with out a code, but I agree with your thinking about taking it to the shop. Hope this helps, let me know.

Truck starter turn normal but takes to much to run


you need a new starter. chances are your bearings are bad. when the engine heats up the starter heats up and expands. since the bearings are worn they bind and the starter doesnt work.

I agree with the above comments. If you are in an extremely cold area, some sort of engine heater will greatly improve your chances of getting this car started every time it is needed.

BMW 318i wont start engine


I would have the battery tested. When they get cold they get weak. Next I would look at the wires on the starter to see if their loose.
