Question about 2001 Chevrolet Venture

Tune up and ignition module, cap rotor and any other ignition part that can be serviced

JUST ASKING TO SEE IF 3.4L ENGINE ON MY 2001 CHEV VENTURE HAS AN IGNITION MODULE THAT CAN BE REPLACED. Need to do a tunup and just wondering if there is one to replace

There is a ignition module but it most likely don't need to be replaced unless there is no power to the spake plugs. Most common tune up will be the spark plug and wire set. the three front plugs will be eazy but the rear three plugs can be entertaining. Just take your time and change the wires and plugs one at a time. Buy platinum plug so you can get 100.000 mile before you have to change them again and anti seize so you can take the plugs out again.
You can go to the rear plugs from under the van, the maintenance book calls for the two front engine mounts to be disconnected and pulled forward to get to the plugs from the top, but that's not as fun as being under the van.
As for the Ignition module, they ether work or they don't, so if you don't have any weird idling and miss fires at all, then it's just do a plug and wire replacement, a good cleaning of the throttle body and new air and fuel filter. Don't for get the Oil and filter change too, here is a trick with the oil filter, buy the oil filter for the 4.3L vortec off a blazer 1996-2005. The filters are the same size but longer giving you a longer oil filter life.

Hello Ester,

The Kalos is called many names in different markets. In North America it is branded under the Pontiac G3 in the United States, selling alongside the "Chevrolet Aveo"

I suspect an ignition problem, you best starting point is ODBII diagnostics which may provide a fault code to assist in isolating your problem.

My past experience with failures that occur (only) when vehicles are at operating temperature and correct themselves when the engine has cooled down have been associated with a failing ignition module.

This module can and will be affected by a poor coil, worn or faulty ignition components like spark plug leads, spark plugs, distributor caps and rotors....but the major causes of ignition module failures are heat.

When was the last time you had your vehicle serviced? If it has been quite some time or never...I suggest a tune up would be a good investment and be sure to notify the garage of the symptoms you have been experiencing.

How long since a tune-up?
Check for applicable trouble codes, if there are any? Your obd 1, you should be able to check for some codes, if the mil still works.
Check primary voltage at the coil, pink wire, key on. Use a test light to check for voltage.
The spark plugs--plug wires--dist cap and rotor all good? Does the rotor turn when you crank it? If you take coil wire loose from distributor cap and hold close to engine ground, have helper crank it, do you see a spark jump? I don't know what testing you have done?
With bypass ignition it's the ignition module that controls spark during cranking. With the coil itself, key on, should be voltage on both sides, if only one side, the coil is faulty. The ground for the coil should pulse, with engine cranking. I'm sure I've left something out? You need to do some testing.

Could be a bad coil,ignition module, crankshaft sensor, distributor cap, distributor, ignition rotor or a broken timing belt. It could also be that there has been a loss of power or ground to components in the ignition system or even a bad Engine Control Module.

check your ignition coil and ignition coil module if not that change your rotor and distriubuter cap

Occisionally misfire while motor not under heavy strain

Tune up? While the Iridium and Platnum spark plugs may be expected to last 100,000 miles the cap and rotor is not made from these substances so they do not last that long.
Any service engine light? If yes, get the codes from it.
Could also be an ignition module. Autozones can check those for free.

Ford explorer has a miss fire 4.6 v8 engine light flashing

Do a tune up. Spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor. It should fix it. If not then you may new a new ignition coil or module. But the basic tune up is a easy solution if its been awhile since its been done.

I have a 2001 chevy express 1500 v6 it wont start i check fuel pump,fuses and replaced distributor cap and rotor. havent check spark plugs or wires. it wont start...

Check for broken timing belt. Put a screew into spark plug head put the other end close but not touching to a metal engine part. have some one check for spark while you turn over engine. if thei is no spark check with distributor cap off if the rotor rotates when engine is being tuned over. if not then check timing chain. Where is the ignition module if i do decide to change it. I am gettimg some sputtering specially on start up

Your vehicle does have an ignition module. It's located under the ignition coil pack. (the 3 ignition coils) It's not cheap to replace. AND it's a bad guess as being the cause of your sputtering problem. Charlie
