Question about 2000 Audi A4

1 Answer

I have year 2000 (Old shape) audi 1.9tdi and the air con has been topped up but is still not working.

I have year 2000 audi 1.9tdi and the air con has been topped up but is still not working. there were no reported leaks while being topped up, and only needed about 17% of its fluid. The air con unit has been replaced about 4 years ago and i have had the car about 9 months now and has never worked. when I took the car to a garage while working from home for a service, the mechanic said he found (strangley) somekind of air con steel pully about 5" in diamater resting inside the bottom part of the engine compartment. I did see this and just thought it had been left behind. Prior to this pully being found (Not sure if related) the car was making a strange sound from the engine compartment like a large bearing had gone and was rattling like mad for at least a full day, then the sound had gone totally. I have checked the fuse in the fuse holder on the side of the inside facia, and this looks ok. The air con light comes on, but the blower is barely cold. can anyone help. Kind regards Martin

Hi, thanks for that, I understand the clutch bearing, but the noise has gone away and that was a few months ago thanks.

I suspect the thermostat or ac pump as you said... I there any way of checking these manually before taking to a garage...?

You may need to check the thermostat and have your clutch bearing checked for your ac pump.

Audi a6 quattro 2.8 coolant leak

First of all, are you sure it is a coolant leak and not the natural draining of the Air Con., a leak on piping to or from the washers, condensation from the exhaust etc.?
Does the coolant level drop significantly and if so, how much and over what period?
Can you collect in a tray the liquid that is leaking? What does it look and smell like and what colour is it?
Does it leak with the air con disconnected?
Does the heater work properly?
When you say that it is leaking 'right under the middle', I presume you mean the middle of the car. If you park over a newspaper, where does the drip end up (which might not necessarily be immediately below the leak)?

Air con not cooling

If the car's more than a few years old, it probably just needs something as simple as an AC recharge. This runs around $70 at most reputable shops, or there are kits to do it yourself for less money. It's fairly dangerous stuff to deal with, and usually best left to the professionals.

Audi A4 1.9 Tdi 2000 Air Conditioning

That air duct is much too new to fail on its own. Sounds like you might have a mouse living in the duct work - blocking the vents. Have you looked at the cabin filter compartment? Strange smells? How does the heat work?

If you know what your ac pump looks like, follow the lines till you find a blue capped valve, its on the outlet side of the compressor.
