Question about 2003 Jaguar X-Type

Car will not start. Gearbox fault has run disabled.

(Justin,?) I have an automatic trans, 2003 Jaguar xtype. I was running wonderful when parked. The next day it would not start/turnover due to fault display readout which says gearbox failure. I attempted to start by using remote starter but aparently the fault has run inhibited. I am sure that there is nothing wrong with the transmission. Can you please advise me on the best way to bypass or jumper (or the location of the sensor to be changed out) in order to move the vehicle as it is stranded. I recently lost my job like many other people, so taking it to the dealer is out of the question for now. (the dealer is a 3.5 hr. drive from here). I have much industrial electronics experience, so I know what is going on with electron flow. I am stuck Please help. Thanks!

I have an S-type that was giving faulty electronic signals that disabled the car. Sometimes giving the message of traction control fault and security faults that stopped the engine from starting. Experts at the dealership rebuilt the dashboard electronics which seemed to work as a temporary fix but later failed again. Said new unit was $3500 !!
Long story short, it turned out to be a couple of relays in the fuse box under the bonnet. Cost $23 and all is now OK.
Different model to yours, but might be worth a try.

Error message that reads "gearbox fault"

It must be having automatic gears. It seems as if the gear teeth have got jammed up and the sensor automatically switched off the engine to prevent further damage. Also check quantity of the gear box. Anyway only a proper mechanic will be able to release the tangle, if any, but my sixth sense seems as if the parking sensor has malfunctioned therefore not releasing the safety feature of driving and thus not responding to the remote starter..........sodeep
