Question about 2002 Volkswagen Passat

Removing front tire

I tried to remove the front left tire but could not get the wheel off. I had removed all of the lug nuts (security nut also) but the wheel would not budge. I removed the VW cap in the center of the rim and there is some rust inside there. Is there an easy way to get the tire off?

Take a hammer and a piece of 2X4 and lightly tap on the back side of the tire. Be careful as the hammer will kick back towards you

Forget removing tire from its current position. Taking it off without the right tools is next to impossible and ............

Bang the lug nuts with a nice lump hammer to loosen up any corrosion. Then try heating the nuts with a torch, and with a good pair of vise grips and and an extension for them loosen the nuts to remove the rim.

How to remove front wheels of Acura 1996 3.2 TL

The large nut you see is most likely the axle retention nut.

It is NOT used to hold on the wheel.

The wheels on a 2000 Acura TL are secured to the wheel hub by 5 lug nuts.

If after removing the "lugs" the tire and wheel may be difficult to remove after a long period due to corrosion betweem the wheel and hub.

If this happens, tap the tire at opposite ends (like 12 and 6 o'clock) with a rubber or plastic mallet.

This should help to loosen the wheel so you can remove it.

When changing the front tire does the center nut need to be removed along with the lug nuts? if so, how?

Only the four wheel lug nuts need to be removed to get the rim and tire off the car. That large center nut holds in the front axle shaft.

Broken stud on left front wheel

Remove: wheel, brake caliper & rotor. Drive out the remaining stub with a hammer and punch. Insert a new stud and pull it into place by tightening the lug nut. Before running out of threads, remove the nut, insert a stack of washers or a large nut which slips over the threads without contacting them, tighten the lug nut to seat the stud.
