Question about 2001 Mazda Tribute

No 2nd gear

Ive got a 2001 Tribute and a while ago she started flashing the O/D light and shifting hard.The garage said it had a "WRONG RATIO" code and i had to bring it to a trans. shop,.........The trans shop hooked it up and said that the computer was signalling 2nd gear but there was none and it was going from 1st to 3rd......They say its common for the 2/4 band to break on those transmissions and it would cost me $2300. for a rebuild,..[which i dont have],....according to the schematic i found on the web, the band is right behind the pump and im thinking about having a look myself.The only thing im wondering is: there has to be a piston to work the band and im guessing a solonoid valve for it also,.....could it be one of those and are they easier to check than the band?,.....apparently its a big job to get the trans out and i dont want to get it stripped and find out later that it was an easy fix that i couldve done with the trans in the machine. i had the same fualt and had to renew flywheel with clutchkit.hydraulic system had to be flushed aswell

what year is vehicle please ?? as people often put it in wrong catagory ,if its mazada 2007 then its dealer only as a computer controls it all and the software is factory encrypted to stop general garages from repairing it .But check for a vacumn pipe loose under bonnet ,thin rubber pìpe from inlet manifold to gearbor or a diaphram switch,

The plastic rod ends on the cable assy that goes between the shft lever in the colum and the transmittion are worn. I change the cable for the same reason last week and that fixed the problem.
The cable part number is MZEC01-46-500E the price from the Mazda dealer was US $ 64.98. Is easy to change all you need is aphillips screw driver & pliers

It sounds more like a clutch problem than tranny. You can try the oil in there, but I think the clutch is shot. Check the fluid in the clutch master and make sure it is working right, no slipping, crunching, grinding, the jerking sounds like oil on the clutch. Check it out.

bad sign that, get it checked, do not allow it to slip.
or it can get worse fast.

How do you turn the gear shift light indicator on mazda tribute


The light comes on automatically with the headlioghts, so you may have a burnt out bulb or a wiring problem.

Ford trauras trouble code 732 - was told transmission code 732 was being produced, what does a code 732 say?


P0732 FORD - Incorrect Second Gear Ratio
Transmission in second gear and the ECM detected an incorrect gear ration. This diagnosis monitors actual gear position by checking the torque converter slip ratio calculated by Transmission Control Module (TCM) as follows:

Torque converter slip ratio = A x C/B

A: Output shaft revolution signal from revolution sensor
B: Engine speed signal from Engine Control Module (ECM)
C: Gear ratio determined as gear position which TCM supposes

If the actual gear position is higher than the position (2nd) supposed by TCM, the slip ratio will be more than normal. In case the ratio exceeds the specified value, TCM judges this diagnosis malfunction.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Incorrect transmission shifting

Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

Tech notes
Start by inspecting the transmission fluid level and condition, and change fluid if necessary.

Please,can you help me fix cods problems p0732,p0734 on my 2006 Mazda Tribute


P0732 - Improper Ratio for Second Gear.
P0734 - Improper Ratio for Fourth Gear.

This diagnosis monitors actual gear position by checking the torque converter slip ratio calculated by TCM as follows:

If the actual gear position is higher than the position (2nd and 4th) supposed by TCM, the slip ratio will be more than normal. In case the ratio exceeds the specified value, TCM judges this diagnosis malfunction.

This malfunction will be caused when shift solenoid valve B is stuck open.

Gear positions supposed by TCM are as follows. In case of gear position with no malfunctions: 1 , 2, 3 and 4 positions In case of gear position with shift solenoid valve B stuck open: 4* , 3, 3 and 4 positions to each gear position above.

Symptoms: Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Diagnostic trouble code A/T 2ND GR FNCTN with CONSULT-II or P0732 without CONSULT-II is detected when A/T cannot be shifted to the 2nd gear position even if electrical circuit is good.

Possible Causes:
- Shift solenoid valve B
- Each clutch
- Hydraulic control circuit

I agree, this is a lot of codes. I would tend to think this would be electrical, perhaps computer are a loose connection? These trannys I have rebuilt so far usually have a couple of codes related to the problem but not this many - all over the place.

The blinking overdrive button is telling u that a serious fault has occurred in the electronic controls or a mechanical fault such as excess slippage is occurring.
