Speedometer not working

I was carrying a heavy load of stone and in the middle of the drive the speedometer just stopped working (it's like it is stuck on 0). No lights are on, everything else seems to be working fine.

I had the same problem in my truck  the guy that fixed it said it was a common problem in gm vehicle  here is the website in case you wanna check it out
