Thank you for giving me some time to reply to my problem it is really kind of you, but the main problem that I am not in US and I have purchased my vehicle from US (NY) second hand and it is like new because the ODO still 25,000 miles, the HYUNDAI service center did not accept to repair my vehicle because I did not buy it from them (actually I do not know how they are thinking) anyhow I am really suffering of this problem and I started hating my car as it was very smooth in driving and I never felt when it shifts from gear to another but now it is shaking like a horse .. pleaaaaaaaase give me some more time to reply and try to fix this issue for me ..... Thank you very much in advance for your cooperation

First: The fuel filter is in the fuel tank attached to the fuel pump - no maintenance schedule required. Second: Engine performance problem - did the 'Check Engine" light ever come "ON"? Is the vehicle still under warranty? If so, take it to a Hyundai Service Center and have them diagnose the problem. They'll give you an estimate of repairs (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc., as well as wether or not the problem can be fixed under warranty). Good Luck.

What are the symptoms of a starter going bad in a 2001 hyundai sonata

If your engine turns over, its not your starter, so im not going to include the location for now. If it turns over, but don't start up, then its either an igniton or fuel problem. First thing I would do is have the fuel pressure checked. If the pressure is ok, then move on to the igniton system. If you don't want to have the pressure checked, or if the pressure tests low, you will have to spend the money and buy a new fuel filter, and/or fuel pump relay, and/or fuel pump. Igniton system consists of the coil, ignition module, sparkplugs, plug wires, distrubter cap and rotor button (if your car has one, as some may not).

Have a 2004 hyndia sonata just repaced fuel filter after engine light came on..worked fine for 1 day now engine light back on and runs rough at times doesnt start right away

You are describing low fuel pressure (fuel pump) problem. When you say you replaced the fuel filter, where did you find this filter on the 2004 Sonata? The problem, there is no Fuel Filter, per se, there is a 'SOCK' at the bottom of the fuel pump assembly which serves as a filter, inside the fuel tank. By the way, you mentioned the Check Engine Light came on. Did you scan for any codes in the computer (ECU)? If you did, what were the codes?

Does the 04 sonata really have a fuel filter?

Hi, the fuel filter is by the front of the gas tank. but the person was right about the strainer on the fuel pump but that is just the first filter to keep large sediments out, and secondary filter is to keep the small stuff out.

Location of fuel filter on a '05 Hyundai Sonata 4cyl

Fuel filters are not checked but just replaced.

This must be fuel injected. Trace back from the fuel rail toward the gas tank. You are looking for a small can sized object in the fuel line. Most likely this is about the middle of the drivers door up next to the inside frame rail.

A couple more things to check.

You can loosen the fuel connection on the frame rail and crank the engine, there should be fuel everywhere.

Yes, it's not the filter
No it's a blockage and most likely the fuel pump

Fuel pump is on top of the tank about the middle.

If you have fuel, then check the fuel injection regulator, on the front of the fuel rail for correct operation or just replace, especially if you have some miles on the car.

I've never seen a fuel filter complete plug the fuel system unless car has been especially abused.

You should also be able to hear the fuel pump running by just turning the key on.

Regards,

Doug
