Question about 1997 Chrysler Town & Country
1997 Town & Country...At times the speedometer goes crazy and the car begins to lurch and won't accelerate. Once I pull the car over, check the gas cap and tighten, the car drives fine for a bit and then repeats the problem. If I leave the car for a few hours its fine to drive, maybe for a day or two and then the problem comes back. The service engine light comes for a while and the next day it's off again. It seems to have something to do with filling up the car with gas, or the level of gas in the tank.
Would appreciate any advice/solutions....Thanks

Dont be worried at all. The battery temp sensor isnt very important, most cars dont even have them. The only thing is you will have that light on. Good luck!!

POSSIBLY. BUT MORE LIKELY TO BE A VAC LEAC TO THE EVAPROTIVE SYSTEM. CHECK ALL OF THE VENT TUBE UNDER THE VEHICLE, EXPECIALLY AT THE CHARCOAL CANISTER. REPLACE ANY BROKEN LINES AND THEN TRY AGAIN.

two baic reasons... you can buy it... not on purpose of course but water gets into the gas station tanks for a couple reasons.
second if you happen to live in an area where fall is fast approaching and the temperature is changing during the day/evening you'll get condensation. just to give you an example.... when you go out in the morning to jump in your car you'll see a layer of moisture on your car.... it's not restricted to the outside of the car. one way to avoid that is to keep your tank completely filled with gas. considering the price of gas you would need to take out a second mortgage on your home to do that.
it's handy to buy a six pack of those little bottles of gas line antifreeze and keep them in your trunk... every time you fill up the tank add one.
pretty much any auto store will have them.... even walmart etc will have them as well.

SOURCE: 2005 Chevy Impala speedometer
should have mentioned, check engine light is not on, and there are no codes stored in the PCM.
do you think i should be looking at replacing the speedometer guage itself, or start with the vehicle speed sensor? also, are the sensors on the front wheels for the ABS, and the vehicle speed sensor is on the back of the transmission? does this sound correct?

sit in the drivers seat close the door. with the key off hold the trip odometer button in then while holding the button in turn the key on. if done correctly this will put the MIC (mechanical instrument cluster) into a self test. if the speedometer does not move like the rest of the gauges during this test the MIC must be replaced. if the speedometer does move it is likely your problem will be fixed, however, if the speedometer does move but it does not start working properly then further diagnostic will be needed.
