Question about 2006 Mazda 6

1 Answer

Do you have to remove the headlight assembly to get to the bulbs, can't access like you normally do from rear?

Have recently bought a mazda atenza and the headlight bulb has blown. Am I correct that the only way to get the bulb out is to remove the entire light assembly as there is no room behind them to just pull the bulb out?

Trying to replace the low beam headlight..i bought sylvania 9006.. how do you get at it

9000 series bulbs are rear loaded bulbs, meaning you need to have access to the back of the light fixture to remove the retaining ring, harness plug and bulb. On some vehicles you may need to remove the air filter assembly or battery to gain access, or you can remove the headlight assembly to gain access to the bulb - which route you go depends on how many things are in the way and if it would be faster to take out the assembly. Chevy used several different types of fasteners - Phillips, Torx or Allen screws. You should not need to mess with the adjustment screws since they are a part of the assembly. Determine which fasteners were used on your vehicle and remove just the mounting screws. Try to unplug the headlight before removing the assembly - if you are unable to then remove mounting screws and pull out the assembly far enough to unplug. Make sure you wipe off the glass part of the new bulb with a clean rag and rubbing alcohol to remove any body oils or dirt which will cause the bulb to burn out. Pay attention to the location of the flat part of the bulb to install new bulb correctly. There is a plastic retaining ring that holds the bulb in place in the assembly. Turning this ring 1/8 turn clockwise will release it from the assembly so you can remove the old bulb. Hope this helps and please rate my solution - and thanks for using Fixya!!

How to take out and replace headlight bulbson 2002 passat

here are instructions from autozone.com
  1. Open the hood and if equipped with a rubber access cover, remove the cover over the back of the headlight assembly, and then disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb.
  2. If a rubber seal/cover is mounted around the bulb, disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb, and then remove the rubber seal/cover.
  3. Once the electrical connector has been disconnected, squeeze the ends of the retaining bracket inward, then pivot the retainer away from the rear of the headlight assembly.
  4. Grasp the bulb securely and remove, noting the location of the alignment tabs for installation. Allow the bulb to cool before removing it from the headlight assembly.
NOTE Do NOT touch the glass portion of the new bulb. This will shorten the life of the bulb.

  1. Install the new bulb into the headlight housing and squeeze the ends of the retaining bracket inward while pivoting the retainer toward the rear of the headlight assembly. Release the retaining bracket making sure it is fully seated in its retainer.
  2. The balance of assembly is in reverse order of removal.

Replacing headlight

Composite Headlights
Most of the vehicles covered by this manual are equipped with composite headlight assemblies. Due to space constraints, no access may be provided to withdraw the bulbs, so the replacement usually requires removal of the composite assembly.

CAUTION The composite headlight assemblies use Halogen bulbs which contain a gas under pressure. Improper handling of the bulb could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments. To help avoid personal injury, follow the precautions closely.

Whenever handling a Halogen bulb, ALWAYS follow these precautions:
  • Turn the headlight switch OFF and allow the bulb to cool before changing it. Leave the switch OFF until the change is complete.
  • ALWAYS wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
  • Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
  • DO NOT drop or scratch the bulb.
  • Keep dirt and moisture off the bulb.
  • Place the used bulb in the new bulb's carton and dispose of it properly.
  1. Raise the hood and locate the bulb mounting location at the rear of the composite headlamp body.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. If necessary for access, remove the splash shield or side marker lamp(s).
  4. On some models it may be necessary to remove the side marker lamp.

  1. If there is enough room to access the plastic base, press in and turn the base 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove from the metal retaining ring by gently pulling back and away from the headlight. Remove the electrical connector from the bulb by raising the lock tab and pulling the connector down and away from the bulb's plastic base.
  2. If you can't access the bulb from the engine compartment, unfasten the thumb screws, and/or other retainers, then pull the composite headlight assembly forward slightly and disengage the wiring connector. Press in and turn the base 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove the bulb from the metal retaining ring by gently pulling back and away from the headlight.

To install:

  2. Install the bulb by inserting the smallest tab located on top of the plastic base into the corresponding notch in the metal retaining ring. Turn clockwise 1/4 turn until it stops. The small plastic tab should be at the top of the metal ring.
  3. Install the composite headlight assembly, then secure with the retainers.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable, then check for proper headlight operation.

99 cutlass supreme headlight bulb replacement

Look at the top of the headlight assembly. There is a plastic panel on top of the assembly that is held in place by two plastic pins. Remove those pins by lifting the center of the pin and then pull out the pin. Remove the panel. Then you will find two small plastic levers that will lift about 1/2 inch. They do not come out but they will release two studs that secure the assembly. After the assembly is released, slide it forward to access the bulbs you need to replace. Installation is the reverse of these procedures.

How do I replace the headlight bulbs in my 2002 Mazda 626

if the lens covers are yellow or discolored you would have to remove the lens and they have chemical at autozone or napa that can take care of this problem but to replace the bulb you open the hood and put your hand in behind the headlight assembly and there is a plug you normally turn counter clockwise and the bulb comes out always wipe the bulb off if you touch it with your hand because the sweat from your hand will cut the life of the bulbs
