How to release the rear/driver's side door?

I took off the door panel and tried manually to release all levers except I can't get the bottom wire that releases the lock in the bottom track. I need a diagram and also how do I release the bottom lock to the door track?

regarding the frozen lock on the side/driver's side of my car, you did not send me info for an 02' Dodge Grand Caravan! I need pictures and need to know how many areas need to be released! Thanks

  • joelmargolis Jun 01, 2009

also the info you send me is regarding a siezed actuator. I do not know what a door actuator is! I don't think this is my problem.

  • joelmargolis Jun 01, 2009

I have an 02 Dodge Grand Caravan with the side (driver's side) door frozen shut. The power locks are working. I took the door panel off. I manually can move the latches and the wires are moving the mechanisms inside. However I cannot get to the bottom latch which is in the channel track on the bottom where the door slides. The interior handle with the open button on it does work. The door lock also works. Even assuming there might be something wrong with an electronic switch, shouldn't I be able to release the door manually, if I can move the wires? I also need a diagram of the latch system for this car side door! Thanks.

  • joelmargolis Jun 01, 2009

It doesn't open from the outside as well as from the inside! So it wouldn't appear to be a child safety lock.. What about the bottom latch that's inside the botton channel track? How can that lock be tripped manually? Also can you supply me with diagrams of the whole latch system on the door. How many latches need to be released to open the door? I know the doorpost facing the front doesn't have any latches. There is one on the bottom track, inside the channel as I can see from the other door on the passengers rear/side door. There is also one on the back side of the door facing the rear doorpost I think. Where are the latch points to be released? Thanks.

  • joelmargolis Jun 01, 2009

Also, if the child safety latch was the issue, not only would it open from the outside but wouldn't the other door be locked as well? The other side door opens.

  • joelmargolis Jun 08, 2009

The last technicial suggesting AllData at the Library did not work. I have checked auto manuals as well. The problem is, is that none tell you what to do when the door is frozen and can't be opened from the inside of outside. They say how to change a lock, assuming the door is open and everything is accessible. With my car I cannot get to any screws or change parts because it is in the closed position.

    hi this is iversh again.....

i wud like to point out that u cannot eliminate the door actuator..... door actuator is a A small electric motor turns a series of spur gears that serve as a gear reduction. The last gear drives a rack-and-pinion gearset that is connected to the actuator rod. The rack converts the rotational motion of the motor into the linear motion needed to move the lock.

It sounds more like you might have a power door
lock actuator problem, which is what the rigid pushrod connects to. It
should work smoothly, but with a detent as you near each end of its
travel. If it's just plain stiff, the internal gearing probably blew up
on it. I'm pretty sure the actuator is available separately from the
motor and can be replaced without removal of the whole latch assembly. check out autozone.....

    good luck once again....

2005 dodge Durango rear door hatch won't open. how do I fix this?

Most of them I fix, the latch is bad. It's electrical. Some times it the wires. Usually the wires break at the top where the wires go from the door to the body. First climb in the back and see if there is a plug at the bottom/center of the door panel. If there is, remove it and use a screw driver, go left to right and catch the latch arm to release the door. If not, them remove the upper door panel around the window. It pops off. Start at the sides, the the top. Remove the screws on both side of the bottom piece(hidden by the top piece). Then pop the top of the bottom piece off. You wont get it out because there are screws on the bottom. Then you have to reach down and find the release arm and open the door to finish taking the panel off. Remove the bolts for the latch and replace it. Check the wires first. You will need a volt/ohm meter to check for power and ground.

How do i remove the door panel on a 1998 buick regal front driver side.

  • In the door handle "finger well" remove the plastic cover with a screw driver.
  • Remove 2 screws (they may be torx or regular hex bolts).
  • Remove Philips screw from behind the inside door opener lever.
  • slightly and slowly, pull back on the plastic triangle that is on the back side of the outside rear view mirror. It will stay attached to the door panel, but you need to release the catch nipple from the door.
  • Now, pull out on the edges all around the bottom, front, and back of the door panel ( you may need a putty knife or something similar to get your fingers in and start pulling).
  • once the door is loose, lift up slowly on the door panel until it is free of the door (don't pull too hard or far as there are still 3 wire bundles attached).
  • Unclip the door light plug on the back and the locks and windows switch plugs towards the front.
  • Reverse for install.

X-Type Jag 2002 off side rear passenger door will not unlock. Cant open from inside or out.

Your rear door lock lever rod seems to have come off and is therefore not releasing the lock. You will have to open the inner door opener lever and try to somehow reach the place from where our lever rod has come off, manually release it, open the door, its inner door panel and put the rod back in its proper place.

Gas door won't open

FIRST: try using the gas release lever from inside the car with the driver side door closed. My 2006 Jetta gas release lever would only work if the driver door were shut and I pulled the release from the inside car interior. Turns out it was a severed door wire (NOT THE RELEASE CABLE). Thus when the door was open, it stretched the damaged wire and so none of the door controls worked unless the door was closed. ie windows, trunk release, and gas release. It was a $600 repair at the dealership, parts and labor! :(

How to replace rear door speakers for 1997 GMC jimmy

I think your GMC have in-door rear speakers.!!
  • Look for screws in door panel or around the speaker vents.
  • If you are sure that the speaker cant be removed without opening the door panel then read this below.
  • Mostly seen near areas like door lever(inside), power window switch set, bottom and each sides of the whole panel.
  • If its manual window, then look for a circle clip in between the winding window lever and the door panel. Plunge screw driver between them a make a gap then look.
  • Assure that all clips or screws which obstacles the removal of the panel.
  • Simply pull the panel from sides towards you
  • If its completely open, then locate the speaker and unscrew it.
  • Check the connection wires for quality
  • Mostly its good to scratch the leads of the wire to remove copper oxide layer
  • Take the new speaker, check the holes on the door matching the speaker's
  • If needed, drill hole for screw and be sure that the new speaker is not more than 15cm diameter.
  • Connect the leads, fix the speakers.
  • Check the sound clarity with your car audio on.
  • If everything is perfect.. go on , fix the door panels
  • Mainly sure with the side clips of the panel, do not bent or break them.
  • Check for any balance parts or screws.
  • Screw everything back as normal.
  • You just installed a new speaker....
  • pls rate it!!

Cant remove door pannel on driver side 04 gmc seirra

1. Remove the door handle bezel.

2. Insert a flat-bladed tool between the door handle bezel and the trim panel in order to release the handle bezel tab retainers.

3. Remove the door trim panel upper extension.

4. Release the upper extension by pulling outward on the front edge in order to release the upper retainer clips.

5. Remove the upper extension from the trim panel by lifting up and out.

6. Using a suitable flat bladed tool, gently pry the manual lock lever from the door trim panel. Remove the trim panel screw.
*Remove the screw (2) from within the opening where the manual door lock lever resides.
*Remove the screw (3) from the opening in front of the armrest.
*Remove the screw located beneath the map pocket, if equipped.

7. Carefully slide the trim panel up in order to release the retainers from the door. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

Note: the top part of the door panel is not separate from the bottom. The "upper extension" is just the small triangle piece directly behind the mirror on the interior.

Simplified instructions
Remove the bezel around the door handle.
Pry out the manual lock.
Remove the 3 or 4 screws depending on options
Slide the door panel up off of the engagement tabs.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.
