Shifting cable has rested on Transmission, how do you replace the whole shifting cable from Transmission to shifter in car,

You have to pull the steering column down to replace that end of the cable.

Hope this helps.

My 1997 Chevy Cavalier automatic transmission is stuck in neutral and the shifter just glides from park, won't engage in any gears.

If the shift handle moves extremely freely (more than normal), changes are that the shift cable has become disconnected from the shift lever. This would explain the indicator not moving out of neutral.
You will need to access the shift lever by removing the console cover. Once you access the shifter check the cable connection to the level. If the cable is broken, it will need replacement. If the cable clip has broken or fallen off, it will need to be reattached.

Ford neutral safety switch

Ford trucks and SUVs are notorious for the shifter bolts loosening on the steering column. Get under the dash and look up at the column with a flashlight. Wiggle the shifter handle a little and watch for two Torx 30 bolts that hold the linkages together. One of them may have already fallen out. Tighten them firmly and then try again.

I need to replace the shift handle and can not get the old part to pop up for replacement (part#4L3Z 7213 BA) FORD F150 LARIAT 2005

The top does not just pop off, you need to pull out on the button, and release the button. Once the button is off, you will see the set screw holding the shifter handle in place, release the set screw and the whole handle comes off as a single part.
The releasing of the shift button is hard to do, it is really stuck on.

The front of the handle has a large "U" clip. Use a screw drive and pry the clip out. It's a lot easier to do when the shifter is pulled all the way back to "1" or "2" but is doable in park still. The handle will then pull up. There will be a plastic piece in it that pushes down to release the lock in the shifter assembly. If when you push the plastic piece down it doesn't release the lock you will have to remove the shifter cover and take a look inside, to see what broke. It may require replacing the whole shifter assembly. You should be able to find the complete assembly used for fairly cheap.

What to do if my car does not shift out of park

Dear Charger.....I have the answer and solution for you....mopar has had a HUGE rash of problems with their shifters failing and hence the tsb(technical service bulletin) on these. The repair to this problem involves replacing the entire shifter assembly ...they don't sell the little pink piece of plastic that fails. It is available through the dealer and so far there is not a national backorder on them. This repairis all done on the interior of the car.you need to pull your center console up and replace the whole unit. The only thing that doesn't get replaced on the shifter unit is the shift handle...HOPE I HELPED!!! If you require any other assistance get back to me!!

Cannot shift properly

My Saturn did the same thing - twice. Where the clutch cables connects to the shifter box(??) there is a little clip that had fallen off. The first time this happened, the mechanic told me that I needed to replace the whole shifter box - costing me $400 dollars. The second time - about two years later a different mechanic charged me $15 for the clip and labor.
