Question about 1999 Mazda 626

1 Answer

The engine cuts out(spits and sputters)at low rpms while the ac is on. If I downshift and get the rpms up it quits. Or if I turn off the AC while it's cutting out it stops. The problem lessened when I cleaned the coroded batt. cables but has gradually started doing it again. It's a 1999 626 with the v6 Auto.

Thanks for the reply...I checked and there is no excessive oil on or around the plugs or plug wires. I'm going to change the plugs and see if that helps....I do believe they are the original and the car has over 150,000 miles. If that doesn't help I will replace the coil next.

I changed the plugs and problem went away....I did find oil on two of the plugs when removed just like Piotlock had suggested. Car runs good as new. Thank You very much!

Check the wires one at a time for oil on them when you remove them fron cylinder spark plug. If there is an excess of oil on them, they will short out to the housing under load and wii eventually kill the coil unit. They are not cheap, but if bad replace all at same time. Ford sells the wires and mazda. I would advise replacing the plugs with good plugs like ngk or denso. I will check again tomorrow to see if you need further help

How will I adjust the rev of carburetor when aircon is on?

you don't adjust the idle for any accessories
The idle is set for smooth running of the engine( normally 750-900 rpms with a drop of 200-300 rpms with an ac running so set the idle at the upper rpms and it will still be smooth when the ac is on without affecting gear engagement
your problem I take it is that when the ac cuts in the idle rpms drops and makes the engine run rough
This is normal as the ac compressor takes up to 5 hp to drive it
what you need is an electric controlled vacuum pot connected to the accelerator lever so that when you switch on the ac the power to the ac clutch energizes the pot and vacuum pulls the accelerator lever to maintain the set idle rpms
such an item is found on most early carby operated engines

On the 02 sebring when the cooling fan or i turn on the air the car idles(rpm) high then back down then stalls out if i dont hit the gas to steady the rpms

run the fault codes as the ecm should compensate for the extra load on the engine when the ac compressor cuts in
there will be a rpm drop of around 150 rpms when it cuts in then it should settle back to normal rpms and when the ac cuts out the rpms will go up and the settle back to normal
anything else indicates a sensor fault.

Ac intermittently quits working, just replaced condenser, put dye in system at mechanics- no leaks

Have an AC repair shop hook up a set of AC pressure gauges while this is happening to see what is going on. You could have a defective AC compressor or a low refrigerant charge in the system. And as to the hot weather causing it to act up that would be normal, the AC would cool fine the cooler the outside air is, problems like worn out compressors and low system refrigerant charge levels would only show there ugly head in hot weather conditions. Also make sure the cooling fans fo rthe AC and engine are working properly. Good luck with this.

My 1995 Jetta is running fine without the ac on. After I turn the ac on it may drive fine for a while then all of a sudden it loses alot of power and spits and sputters. What could be the problem. Thanks

make sure your plugs and wires are in good condition.also fuel and air filter.the engine has to be well tuned up.because air conditioner compressor put a little load on engine.if engine is not well tuned.the AC will pull it down.cause it to lose power and run rough.

Engine rpms drop very low when AC is on

make sure your engine idle speed correct.air conditioner compressor will take power from engine.the engine has to be fine tune.your engine idle to low have the idle speed control checked.
