Question about 1995 Nissan Maxima
I have a 1995 maxima with 204000 miles there is a hickup or hesitation at wideopen and at idle this is not a every time problem this problem will clear its self after a few seconds. fuel pressure good, new plugs, wires, oil changed on time, and 93oct every fill up. egr code sets every so often but not during the hickups. Any help would help Thanks Will I have 195,000 miles on the car, last week started "shaking" during idle and while engaged in driving. Seems to have no power while acclerating and almost like a "dead miss". In parking and Neutral the "shaking" is not so bad, but engaged in "reverse and drive" shakes badly throught-out the steering wheel and whole car. I have replaced the plugs, fuel filter. Thought maybe the coils or mass-air flow sensor. The air filter is only 2 months old....Please help?? (Hope its not the timing) I have a 95 nissan maxima that runs fine at an idle, but when you give it gas it spits, misses and baugs down. While driveing it, it has no take off power because it acts like it is not getting enough fuel. Slightly giveing the car gas in drive it will go, but when you go on down with the peddle it acts like it is not recieveing the fuel that it needs to run. What could be the problem? I have already been through the fuel system. Could it be the cadilac converter?
It sounds like a clogged catalytic converter. If you can unbolt it; try unbolted it and see how it runs. Also try unplugging the sparkplug wire one at a time and see if the shaking gets worse or stays the same. When you pull a spark plug wire and the car stops shaking then that cylinder isn't firing. Watch out though, you'll get a nasty shock if you do it without insulated pliers. It could be a stuck valve or bad ignition.

You could be using to high of Octane gas, Unless you have done something to the engine to require that high of octane try lowering it. Also, How is your air filter. Next I would check your tempature control sensor. Are the plugs you are using hot enough for what you are doing? Try using the bosch platinum plus 2 or 4. They will burn more fuel, and leave less deposit. I would also replace that egr, its a simple task and a quick fix. next I would check into your throtle body and the sensor, cleaning it is as easy as removing 4 bolts and the ectric pig tails, and a big old can of Carb cleaner. then if you want just replace the throtle body sensor. Unless you have a computer set up for diagnostic, its hard to say it is or not.
Something that I have been looking into and had really good success with is SEAFOAM go to utube and check it out. 1 can broken into 3rds. 1 part in the gas tank 1 part in the oil, and the last part sucked up threw the booster vacume slowly. If you have to much carbon built up it will help. I have to tell you I am not done with any of my studies on this product but so far I like it. so do it at your own risk. So it doesn't scare you to death once you **** the last part up in the booster vacume hose its going to smoke like it is going to blow up, its not but it does look scary at first. Just drive it around untill the smoke goes away.
I would also check your timing, just a litle bit off can cause big problems, make sure your distributor ajustment is tight, that its not moving around. Replace your distributor and rotor if you have it.
I can only assume that because you are using 93 octane you have made some sort of modifications, if you write back and let me know more I can tell you more.
