Question about 1996 Audi A4

1 Answer

Overheating I have a 1996 audi a4, and it seems to be overheating now after owning it for about 6 months. When the car is first started, the maunal fan spins normaly (just replaced the fan manual fan clutch), but the secondary electrical fan does NOT seem to run at all. Even when the car gets to the overheat temperature. The only time it comes on is if i turn the AC on... Should the aux fan turn on at the time of engine start? or when it gets to above the 1/2 way mark on the temp guage? Also, the upper radiator hose gets hot while the engine is running, but the lower one seems to stay cool...

When you mention the radiator having a hot upper in pipe and a cool bottom out pipe tells me that the coolant is not moving around the engine. This could be down to a water pump not working, blocked radiator, thermostat not opening. The bottom hose should be cooler than the top hose but once the engine is up to working temp which is around 85/90 degrees c for an audi the bottom still should be farly hot to touch. Hope this helps

Hmedmy Audi a4 1996 2.6 litre is over heating and leaking coolant, i dont know what the problem is

More than likely they're related. First locate the leak - hose, waterpump - repair the leak & I suspect your overheating will stop. Note; you might consider replacing thermostat also, they damage easily when overheated.

how about replacing the termstat and when you do this make sure you get all of the air out of the system. also make sure your fans are coming on when engine comes up to temp. if you turn on the a/c the fans or fan should automatically come on.

Starting audi a4, 2.0lt

When it happens, try jumping it directly at the starter solenoid, or checking for power at the solenoid. It could be a safety cut out, like for neutral, clutch pedal, seatbelts, etc.

Heater does not produce hot air even on high only warm air

My 2002 Audi A4 doesn't produce the hot air, It's an Auto computer control temperature system. I took my car to the local mechanic (gas station), he said that the water pump and the timing belt need to be replaced.

The heating system normally produces by the engine, then normally the "thermostat' is causing the issue, but the temperature gauge doesn't indicate the overheat.

Any idea what's cause this problem?

A4 Starts ok then engine fades out? 1996 model

Try replacing the engine temp sensor. Temp sensor is telling ECU the engine is hot when its is actually cold. After the 6th attempt there is enough fuel in the cylinders to create a ritch mixture, then it goes.
