Wife turned off GMC Sierra & removed key when not in park gear

It seems my wife managed to turn our GMC off and also removed key apparantly while not in park gear. Now PU is frozen up, key wont turn in lock, steering wheel appears to turn but does not do anything. cannot get key to turn, is there any suggestions to get pu working?

That is one thing I have tried, for some reason, PU appears to be locked in off position at the key ignition, but steering wheel turns freely without doing anything!

1998 GMC Sierra 5.0L won t shift out park when pressing brake.

Could be the brake switch or the shift lock solenoid. You may be able to turn the key switch to the unlock position and shift out of park before you turn the key switch on.

How to get my 1997 sierra gmc pickup to shift out of park

Problem could be the brake switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park.
You may be able to turn the key switch past lock but not on, and then take the shifter out of park. The lock solenoid would need to be tested.

So what do you see come on besides the parking lights? Do you see the high beams come on when you turn them on, do you see low beams or can you see the day time running lights come on (they are the ones that are closest to the grill). What have you done or checked so far?

GMC Sierra...grinds while turning key.

teeth could be broke off the fly wheel...the fly wheel is what the starter engages with to turn the engine over,,,it looks like a big gear with lots of teeth....check the starter first and see if it is fully engaging.....tap with a hammer while turning the key..sometimes this will release it..thank you and have a great day
