Question about 2004 Subaru Legacy

Open Question

2004 Subaru Outback ac, radio, cigarette lighter acting up

We bought this car used about two years ago. When we bought it everything on it worked great. About 8 months after the purchase the air conditioner stopped working (started blowing only warm air), then the cigarette lighter stopped working, and then the radio would stop working whenever there was any moisture in the air. After a year of all of this, now the radio only works occasionally... you can turn it on, then turn the car off, and the radio won't turn back on again for hours, days, weeks.... I'm wondering if this may all be somehow related through the wiring... or if they are all actually separate issues.... We have changed out the fuses, so we know that isn't the problem. Any ideas?

SOURCE: where is the cigarette lighter

Some of the fuses are under the hood, check your owner's manual. Mine is located on the right side near the front of the engine compartment.Mine also has extra fuses in the engine fuse compartment.

SOURCE: Cigarette Lighter

Yes there is a fuse corresponding to this which has cut off. It is located in the car under the driver frontage.

Good luck.

You can purchase a specific charging socket extension at most car accessory outlets. It can be wired to the car's battery, or as an extension of another heavy load circuit such as the cigarette lighter and this is a very inexpensive item and is reasonably easy to instal.

Hi sounds like you have a dodgy power wire thats making contact causing fuse to blow, i would start by checking everthing on that circuit with the radio being first as that would be the most common cause

You say you do not believe it's the fuse. What makes you think that ? A lighter and a socket ( 2 separate parts) probably run around $ 40 plus installation if you are not doing it yourself.

Apart from the fuse box in the engine bay there is a fuse repository behind the coin alcove underneath the boot release. Fuse 3 for the lighter (I think) was blown. I replaced it and now the climate control console responds and the display lights up.
