The best thing to do is find an independent shop that will let you hang around and watch, thats the way i learned to do things and not just automotive, thats goes for everything, it will help you later on in life. Don't get in the way but just watch, you can learn a lot just by watching.

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

My alternator belt broke on my 2003 mitubisi lancer. I'm a novice at fixing cars and am trying to gain information to fix it myself

This shouldn't be too hard. The best thing you can do is get a Haynes manual which will give you the step by step guide on how to replace it.

Something like this.

If you are keen on doing work on your own car and learning some other stuff (brake replacement, servicing etc) this is invaluable)

Also make sure you have some good tools. A good socket set is a MUST, as well as a good socket set.

The alternator will need to be unscrewed (just one of the bolts (i recommend the top one) to give it some lateral movement (back and forward). When that is out and the alternator can swivel on the bottom bolt you can move it and the belt will become loose and easy to remove (or in your case replace). Put it on and then put the bolt back in. Tighten it and make sure the belt has good tension (but not too much as you don't want it to stretch and break again).

Job done.

I have a 2000 honda accord v6 3.0 vtec. the engine light come on and the engine shakes. i went to the auto parts store and they told me it was the spark plugs. i the spark plugs in but it shakes a little....

The auto parts store has counter people that
take your money when you buy parts

Some of them may be skilled in auto repairs
but you don't go there for advice

Personally I think for $60 your better off buying
your own code reader & start educating yourself
on OBD2 Systems. You have everything you need
on the internet generically, you just don't have wiring
diagrams & factory manuals you really need.

After the parts store 99% of people pay a shop or
dealer to do the same code checking all over,so skip
that step.

You surely can not believe that with a check light on that
spark plugs are on a list of codes. There not.

Have the codes checked & use the internet to find
out what they refer to.
No code tells you to change a part or what is wrong with a part

You study each sensor or part & learn how to test them
They have to fail a test before they need replacing, common sense

I would think ignition wires on wrong if that applies,or bad ignition
coil,a timing belt that jumped a few teeth, vacuum leaks, egr valve

May be faster & cheaper to have it fix this time & be involved
at the shop to learn something

Just wondering approx price to change the ac serpentine belt, and also to have my rear differ. fluid changed, I just don't want to get ripped off being a girl. I have a 2002 yukon, thanks, kathy

The belt should be no more than $20, Differential fliud $5-$10, Differential gasket $5, Both of these are VERY EASY fix if you know some1 that can help you or will do it for you. Mechanic or dealership will charge Double or Triple the total above, Some Mechanics will not put a part on that you bought somewhere else, But you can try may save you a little bit of money. I could fix it for $40 plus the parts, But im in N.C.

To be honest with you. There is lots of things you can do yourself on this car. But first you need to buy a book on yout car. They have them at O' Rilleys Auto Parts Stores. it tells you how tight to put the belt. And step by step how to do lots of jobs. or you can go to its great

Daewoo Leganza 2000 timing belt broke

If the idler pulley, broke, with the car running, (I think is the most probable), There is no way to fix the car just replacing the timing belt and the idler pulley. This is an interference engine, that means if the timing belt or the idler pulley breaks, you need to replace the whole cylinder head, that's because the valves are bent. I just fix my daewoo, I tried first to just change the idler pulley and set up the time, but it did not work. I had to replace the whole head cylinder, timing belt and pulleys.

I got the information to set up the timing belt from a Library, The program is Mitchell on demand.
