Question about 1995 Dodge Ram 2500

1 Answer

Intermittent starting, 95 dodge 2500 diesel

I just got my first diesel truck. 151k miles on it. Its one owner, well taken care of, but its giving me a starting issue. Most of the time it starts right up. About 1 in 10 times.....it takes me 3 or 4 times to start it. It wont turn over at these times....just a click and nothing. Not sure its related, but the gas guage is all over the place too. It can be nearly full but read empty, 1/4 tank or right where it should. Could this possibly be a fuel pump issue?

Please explain in Dodge Diesel for Dummies language...I'm a blonde gal. LOL

Thanks

Check battery cables for tightness, and you may have a loose wire to the starter, worst case scenario u will need to rebuild the starter when it gets to the point were it just wont start

Starting problem in a '97 dodge ram diesel

Could be the solenoid on the starter. Next time it doesn't start, hit the starter with a hammer or other hard object, then try to start it. If it starts, replace the starter before it leaves you stranded

Truck ran completely out of fuel.

is there a primer valve on the pump? it would unscrew and then pull out if it had one. take a look around the injection pump. but i belive that uses an electric lift pump it should not need to be primed there may be something else going on here.
