Electronic display says coolant sensor bad. I replaced the sensor located in the recovery bottle, but it still reads bad?

Good Evening, I can certainly understand your problem, I fought with a 97 grand cherokee with the same problem, at the end of all the troubleshooting it ended up being the information display module. Certainly it is something to consider, especially changing the sensor a couple times to be sure. Hope this helps, If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

My indicator stated that I had a "bad coolant sensor." The warning would come on then go off every other day. Well this afternoon, after driving around all day, my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee started to...

What repair did you make when the "bad coolant sensor" light came on? If you did nothing, I'm sure you know that not only does the sensor give you temperature info, it also tells the computer when the engine is warmed up so it can properly manage fuel delivery. That same information tells the computer when to turn any auxiliary electric fans on, or to modify the engine timing to cool down the engine.
At this point your only best option is to replace the sensor, the thermostat and re-fill with the proper mix of coolant. Check everything over for leaks and hope you have not sustained any major internal engine damage (head gaskets or cracked heads).
Good luck!!

1996 grand cherokee lerado - stalls in the middle of driving...'bad coolant sensor' message also comes on... are they connected problems of two different issues??

Coolant Sensor send bad signal to the ECU and the engine is work with abnormal parameters. Unplug the coolant sensor and clean the pin harness, sometimes this work, If not fix the problem, you need replace this sensor. For other details about Cooling System check your Service Manual ZJ-Secc-7-Cooling-System

Hope helps (remember rated this) Good luck.

Coolant Sensor Bad Message on the Vehicle Information Center intermittently displayed on my 1996 Grand Cherokee. Have changed the Float Switch 3 times and no joy.

The problem Has nothing to do with the coolant sensor, Or for that matter anything to do with the cooling system at all, Check out Jeepforumdotcom & under "coolant sensor Bad fix" You will see that it actually has to do with crummy soldering on the back of the VIC (Vehicle Information Centre), & all that is needed to fix this problem is a bit of solder & some patience, I know this because I have changed my coolant sensor on the engine block and in the reservoir & the thermostat just to be sure & all with brand new original jeep parts not aftermarket rubbish, & all it took was a bit of solder & searching the answer on jeepforum.com

Check the inside of the plug and make sure that the prongs are in good condition. They may be corroded. Napa sells a replacement pigtail for the plug.

Coolant senser bad were is it on the engine its not on the radiator

If you are getting a coolant sensor message on the VIC (screen above the shifter), then the sensor for that is located in the coolant overflow tank. Sometimes it is a problem with the sensor, other times it is bad soldering and/or a bad VIC.

The temp sensor is located in the thermostat housing (center/front of engine just above belt.

This trouble is common in this models, I have one '93 ZJ and my signal Sensor Coolant Level also is ON for long time; first, try to clean the plug and reset the ECU. If the signal show again, maybe you need replace this sensor.

Need locations of all the themperature sensors on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Edition 5.2 Liter, the dash says the Colant Sensor Is Bad, thought about punishing it :-), been doing this for about 3...

The Coolant Sensor is inside coolant bottle; in this models is common ths message failed; clean the plug and reset your ECU alarms, if the message come on again, replace your coolant sensor. And, really, one message about a bad sensor/signal is one bad work engine.

Good luck.

Coolant censor bad

Yes, there is another one. The one you replaced is the coolant level sensor. The ECT (ENGINE COOLANT TEMP) sensor is located near the thermostat housing. It has a 2 pin plug on it.
