Ignition switch does not turn on my 2001 c320

I insert the smart key and usually I would get the dash lit and the wheel would slant into driving position. Now, the key goes in and nothing, It will not even turn. I finally get it to turn and the car starts. I have to fight it for about 20 mins. How can I replace the switch, do I need to replace it all? I have a similar problem, I was driving and all of a sudden the engine simply lost power, I pulled up to the side and placed the car in park and then tried to start the car but it wouldnt even recorgonize the key

Sounds like it could be the ignition module. happened my 01 c200k last year. The cheapest solution is to buy a second hand module, Barrell, Keys and ecu from the same car or what I had to do buy new module + 2 new keys and get them programmed for the car. €1000

Key ignition wont turn

APPLY BRAKE AND MAKE SURE STEERING WHEEL IS CENTERED. IF IT IS PARKED SO THERE IS PRESSURE ON THE FRONT WHEELS AND HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL HARD RIGHT OR LEFT IT WILL MAKE THE KEY VERY HARD TO TURN.

Engine will not turnover

If you are hearing clicks when you turn the key and if you know where the starter is, get under there and tap it with a hammer. Sounds archaic but when they start to go bad they stick. When you turn the key, the starter acts like the old hand crank you see in movies to spin the engine. When you release the key the starter believes it did its job and goes dormant. Anyway, if you hear clicks when you turn the key and if it starts after hitting it that is likely your problem.

You have to have your freewheeling valve and some switches on your transmission checked.

Key on display while starting and does not start

The "Key" on the dash means that the immobilizer was activated for whatever reason. Usually you can fix this by inserting the key to position 1 then pressing unlock on the key head. You should get the chirp. Turn key off and try starting. Also, make sure that there aren't any other RFID devices around. I've heard that can cause issues.

Smart key not turning in c240 all batteries were check.

On Mercedes, and most German cars for that matter, you can only turn the key to the start position once. Then you have to turn the key completely off to turn it back to the start position again.

On almost all cars the steering wheel can also prevent you from turning the key, if the wheel is jammed to one side or the other. If you giggle the steering wheel left and right while turning the key, you can usually unjam it.

Hope this helps. Good luck and have a nice evening. Peter

My smart key is not working. i opened the door with the key part located inside the fob. is there a way to start the car with this key part? i do not see a key hole

Hello. Your smart key needs the battery replaced.

You can start the car, with a weak smart-key battery.

Position the smart key right above the start button. The Smart-key receiver will communicate with the smart key passively. The smart key must be held on the dash, above the start button.

Ignition switch does not turn on my 2001 c320

It is possible the immobilizer ring is defective(thid ring reads the rolling and number codes form the key. Does your central locking work and does the l.e.d. illuminate when the central locking buttons are pushed. The batteries may be weak and if they are they would have to be replaced and the resynchronized. The resynch procedure is probably in your owners manual. The e.i.s. (switch) is a control module and a complicated replacement procedure- it also takes a good 10 days to get parts because they have to reload it with a special key that made for your vehicle only. Try cleaning the lens on the key. It would also be a good idea to have the e.i.s. codes pulled at a dealer or equivalent. if problem persists. If the car will not start. try disconnecting the battery and wait approx. 15 min. sometimes that will give you a couple of starts unless it is just a software issue. I believe after so many starts these switches have to be replaced because the codes are now illogical; basically they do not reset and go back to zero.
