1988 Cherokee Pioneer 4.0 auto trans. 4x4. My Son drove Jeep for several months, brought it back because it was not running good. Done some testing found the TPS was bad, changed TPS and now it idles fine,...

the tps is not adjustable,
its 1v at idle and 4vdc at wot
its not the TPS.,
it has 3 pins, its just a pot, (a variable resistors is all it is and is cruede)
1 pin is ground. 0v
one pin is 5v, (about) and is POWER> 4.5 to 5.5v typ
the output pin is 1v to 4v, as you advance throttle it does that 1 to 4 gradually.
end TPS , guessing, its autolearned each key on.
i see you are reading the wrong Jeep books, its a 1988 not 1992 to 95

we cant tell you all the tests, and if no tools to do them be silly to pretend you do.. on the beach.
but if timing is off its off. the crank flywheel markes are fixed so those cant be changed,
but the distributor is not spark timed its injector sync timed
so your guess, is wrong, but if was messed with its a impossible for you to correct it lacking a scan tool.

the only words you posted that help are
it starts to move, then give it a little more gas and it Hesitates and stalls unless I give it about half throttle. but totally left off does engine have full power at wide open throttle
if not
then the fuel pressure is way too low.
or cat melted.
or map sensor, vacuum port clogged.

I HAVE A 1997 FORD F100 4.2 V6. THE CHECK ENGINE

That codes is for a fault in the Electronic Pressure Control (EPC)Solenoid circuit. When that codes sets it defaults the EPC to Low Pressure Mode, meaning the transmission is working on limited power. Do not drive it this way !
It will require extensive testing to pinpoint the exact failure.
The EPC is located on the Valve Body of the transmission and it requires removal of the transmission Pan to gain access to it..It could have debris in it, it could be a loose or faulty connector at the EPC or the Harness Connector on the side of the transmission.
If the truck has a lot of miles and the fluid has not been maintained properly then debris would be my guess and that will lead to an over haul of the unit.
It will need to go to a reputable transmission facility to be diagnosed

I have a 1988 pontiac firebird with a 2.8 v6 fuel injected engine that displays code 32 and 34. We have changed the plugs, plug wires, rotor, and dist. cap and have also replaced the mass air flow (maf)...

Check throttle position sensor (TPS) is a sensor used to monitor the position of the throttle. The sensor is usually a potentiometer, and therefore provides a variable resistance dependent upon the position of the valve. The sensor signal is used by the engine control unit (ECU) as an input to its control system. The ignition timing and fuel injection timing (and potentially other parameters) are altered depending upon the position of the throttle, and also depending on the rate of change of that position. For example, in fuel injected engines, in order to avoid stalling, extra fuel may be injected if the throttle is opened rapidly (mimicking the accelerator pump of carburetor systems). the cost about 50-75 bucks.

Engine speed hunts on idle. Auto trans slow shift.

The fast idle valve is inside the throttle body. Sometimes it backs out and needs turned back in (it's threaded). This will cause the loping idle.

Get transmission filter changed with new fluid. Honda does not recommend transmission flushing.

Transmission is "Hunting"

there are so many sensors nowdays that cause the same problem.---a bad throttle position sensor causes,:transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cut off, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. a code will not allways set for a problem.
