Question about 2000 Dodge Durango

I need to put the plug wires on the new distributor and had it apart too long (i forgot the sequence). Whats the order they go back on?

Whats the number sequence the spark plugs go on the distributor on a 2000 durango 5.9?

1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. That is the firing order. Cylinders are 1-3-5-7 on the drivers side of the motor, 2-4-6-8 on the passenger side. Distributor should spin clock wise. Set it up on #1 TDC, and run the plug wires around cap off that one being #1.

Lol. Did you take all of them off at one time? If not, take one off and match up to the new correct wire and replace. Repeat

First off, check your spark plug order. The distributor rotation is clockwise or counter clockwise depending on your engine size. 4cyl 2.3L, 6cyl In-line 3.3L, and V6 3.3L engines have distributors which rotate clockwise. 3.8L V6 and 8 cylinder engines have distributors which rotate counter clockwise. A 5.0 will start with the wires backwards but you will have no power if you try to drive it.

REPLACE THE PLUGS, WIRES, AND DISTRIBUTOR AND ROTOR CAP! THE WIRES ARE VERY IMPORTANT THEY ARE IN CORRECT ORDER! IT IS BEST TO REPLACE THEM ONE AT A TIME TO INSURE THE FIRING ORDER IS CORRECT! THE BEST WAY IS TO RAISE THE CAP, PUT THE NEW ONE ON THE JEEP, AND ONE BY ONE, WATCH THE LOCATION OF THE WIRE YOU TAKE OFF, AND PLACE IT IN THE SAME LOCATION ON THE NEW DISTRIBUTOR CAP! THEN ONE BY ONE, REMOVE THE WIRE FROM THE PLUG, REPLACE THE PLUG, AND PUT THE WIRE BACK ONTO THE PLUG! NOW YOUR READY FOR THE WIRES! WHEN YOU REPLACE THEM, DO IT ONE AT A TIME! WHEN YOU TAKE IT OFF THE PLUG, PUT THE NEW WIRE ON THE PLUG, THEN TRACE THE WIRE TO THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP, REMOVE IT AND INSTALL THE NEW WIRE IN ITS PLACE! Wont start i need to know the wiring sequence when putting back together i changed the plugs distributor cap and rotar. car was running before i did this it only had a miss. now car wont start


go to library sec629 and look in a chilton repair book for plug wire order--u probly only hav 2 or 3 crossed-did u get them new too-they wear inside tho the outside rubber is good-cudda caused the initial miss

The firing order, which should be cast into the intake manifold, for the chevy small block V8 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The firing order is the numerical sequence in which the spark plugs are fired. The insertion position of each spark plug wire around the circumference of the distributor cap can be found according to a clock face. The insertion sequence determines the firing order. The firing order is followed clockwise around the distributor cap starting from the 6:30 position with the 6:30 position being the number one cylinder spark plug wire.
On classic chevy small block engines that use ignition breaker points instead of electronic ignitions, the number one cylinder is the one immediately clockwise of the small metal sash cover on the distributor cap. The firing order starts here. There is no sash cover on the distributor cap for GM HEI electronic ignitions, and the firing order is the same, but starting at the 5:30 position.
The firing order makes sense if you know how the cylinders are numbered. The number one cylinder is the front most on the drivers side and 2 being the front most on the passenger side. From front to back, the cylinders are odd numbered on the drivers side, and even numbered on the passenger side.

We would connect the number one spark plug wire to the distributor cap terminal in the 6:30 position. distributor.pngSince the next cylinder in the firing order is 8 (passenger side rear), we connect the number 8 spark plug wire to the next distributor cap terminal (approximately 7:30 position) in the clockwise direction from number one. You need to be sure you continue the firing order in the clockwise direction around the chevy small block distributor cap from the last installed spark plug wire. Setting the rest of the firing order is just a matter of repetition. Be sure to count the spark plugs from front to back on each side of the motor to identify the correct cylinder number in the firing order.

Pasenger side isnt firing with new plugs and wires


Recheck the rotor position and spark plug wiring for correct positions for starters. camshaft sensor?

You need to bump the starter over till you get the timing mark up on the front of the harmonic balancer to line up with the - O degree, Top Dead Center mark (TDC) first. With the Distributor cap off the distributor so you can see the Rotor. The rotor will rotate almost to the front pointing at the back of the throttle body of the EFI. You need to mark the distributor cap , once you get it on ZERO, to mark it as number one, on the post bulge on the cap that the rotor points to. this is the post we start with in putting the wires back on in sequence. This puts the wires back on the cap according to the firing order you see on the intake manifold. The rotation of the rotor you see...as you bump the started over, tells you how the wires...in sequence go around the cap...the firing order from number 1 goes in that direction. Remember on the vehicle ..the odd numbered cylinders are on the drivers side...Number one at the front ..then 3, 5, 7 to the back. All the even cylinders are passanger side 2 at the front ..then 4, 6, 8 in order to the back. You really need to tab the wires at the Cap End... as to which one is which cylinder. Use a piece of masking tape make a flag tab folded around the wire so you can easily see its number. Then run your sequence of firing order puting the wires to the cap in that order. This assumes you still have the wires on the right sparkplug....if you pulled the wires off the Cap and the sparkplugs...its OK..just mark which ones fit to the cylinder...one at a time...and tab it the same number on each end first. Post back if you are lost...tell me what has been removed...and what you left hooked up the same as it was BEFORE you started. It will go back together...and run . If you pulled out the distributor base then we need to talk.

1992 Isuzu Rodeo Distributor wires 3.1L engine


Hi,
Isuzu seem to have complicated things by changing engines, firing orders and even direction of rotation! As you can see, they've numbered the cylinders the other way than the 3.2L.

The Firing sequence for the 3.1 (traditional distributor) 6 cylinder is as follows -

If you take the distributor cap off, there should be a "No.1" formed on the inside. Stick a lead on this before you put the cap back on and go from there.
As leads are different lengths, you may have to swap a few to find the best fit.

I think 2 of them will look out of place - but that's the way it's designed. Just make use of clips for holding them neatly.
