2001 Dodge Ram 2500 HO Cummins 6 Speed

Very hard to start, but when it starts runs good. Electrical I think, fuel pump does not get fire when trying to start. Cluster panel, wait to strt light does not come on all the time, but when turning over engine, light will flash during start attempt an then it will fire right up. replaced fuel pump on engine block. Still have problem, hot wired fuel pump still want start it is like it shuts off fuel supply to injector pump then a flash of wait to start light on panel and it fires right up and runs great. Climate has no affect, engine hot or cold has not affect

I do not understand, a dodge cummins does not have glow plugs, fords and others do, but cummins does not. Thanks for your attempt, I am not trying to be sarcastic but someone, some where has had this problem before, looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right that has seen this problem, I am not Guru, but pretty good Mechanic but when it comes to electrical I am out of it.

Does anyone know where the relay is for the wait to start light. Today I kept turning the truck switch on and off until the wait to start light come on and then it fired right up with out having to wind the engine starter

    Thanks for comments!.

Sounds to me like it's loosing prime. I would check to make sure fuel pressure is holding when you turn the engine off. You could have a injector leaking off, or the fuel pressure check valve could be the problem. It also could be a fuel filter gasket, or filter head. Also any fuel line connections, or a worn rubber type hoses.

The "wait to start" light is your glow plugs. You must have a loose connection to them or something not connecting. They come on almost everytime you start them, hot or cold.

No, they don't actually have glow plugs. I guess i should have said "grid heater", but it serves the same purpose. If you check your book under instrument / gauge cluster, the pictogram indicating your grid heater is on, is a coil that will stay on if needed. If not needed, it will not lite. I'm sure if you contact cummins they'll be able to tell you something. In fact, i believe somebody at work had this problem, but i can't remember what the solution was. Seems to me it was a relay or something.

Bought 01 dodge, 2yrs ago, has 300,000 miless,

Well, Hate to say this to you but your Cummins 24v turbo diesel does not have glow plugs. The fuel temperature necessary for proper ignition is heated by an element inside your fuel filter housing.

Dodge cummins won't start, fuel reaching injector pump but no fuel coming out of injector pump.

You said you have fuel flowing from the inlet line of the injection pump? But not at the injector lines?
