hey i look at my tech book.check out the crank sensor and cam sensor.when you turn ignition switch on the pcm energizes the asd relay and the electric fuel pump relay for a second if pcm does not receive signal from cmp and ckp.turns off asd relay.you have to have a scanner to see if cmp or ckp is working.

My 1996 grand jeep cherokee wants to start..cranks up but wont..however, when i put key in ignition..none of the dials move...they're all dead

First the dials will not normally move until the vehicle is started. This is to reduce the load on the battery when cranking. You need to check for spark and fuel and all of the normal things for a non-starting vehicle.

Might be your jeep's ecu is bad. Does the check engine light come on your dash, when you turn the ignition key to on, before cranking? If not, the ecu is bad. If the check engine light does come on, it may be the crank sensor is bad on your jeep.

Have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Had fuel pump replaced couple of months back. While driving over a bridge it just quit. It tries to turn over but will not start. No gages are working. What would be...

Crankshaft position sensor. Located at the front are of transmission. When the crank rotates it read off the location or position and knows "I need to fire on this stroke, but if the sensor don't pick it up, it has no idea and therefore will only turn over. Jeeps are bad about this one problem. Part is $50 +/- a few. and easy to put in.

I was driving the jeep all day long-no problem. went to leave the house and it would not start. it cranks but will not even hit

Common problems are crankshaft position sensor located on rear of engine over flywheel. Fuel pumps are also known to fail. Check for fuel pressure at fuel tap on injector rail with fuel pressure gage. If above 30 p.s.i. pump o.k. Check for spark at plugs. If no spark suspect crank sensor. If check engine light on have codes read to help in diagnosis.

you need to see if you have spark and check all fuses and see if you have fuel pressure and injector pulse if no spark and no injector pulse suspect crank sensor or ignition control module if no fuel pressure check fuses then relays and then suspect pump

check the fuel pump fuse/relay, could be just bad enough to cause an intermittent start/no start. and check fuel pressure, spark and the crank position sensor.
