I just replaced the fuel filter on my 90 Lumina Euro 3.1L. The previous owner probably never changed it as it was still an AC Delco part. I was able to get the air out of the lines by starting the car with starting fluid, but it would not start on it's own until I waited about three hours before I tried again. It finally started and idled fine, but when I hit the accelerator, it died, and would not start back up again. I replaced the filter because it seemed to be starving for fuel and left us stranded beside the highway, where it would not start. It started after we got it towed home, and again this morning before I changed the filter.
Could it be a weak fuel pump, even though I can hear it running, and the pressure seemed fine when I changed the filter? I don't have testing equiptment to check the pressure.

- Yes, the filter is on correctly, ( it's simple when there is a flow arrow on the side, and you have replaced hundreds of them in the past). I just got it to idle for about 15 minutes, but when I hit the accelerator, it dies, like it is flooding, or fuel starved. I am still thinking it is a weak fuel pump.
Is the filter on correctly? and if runs yes there is a filter inside the tank to. also since the prior owner did nothing to this car could be dirt inthe lines or the tank as well.
check the air filter too.
