Question about 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Service traction system and ABS light

I have a 2004 Chevy Impala recently purchased used. While backing out of drive, the check traction light came on as did the ABS light. Also, when I make a tight right hand turn, the traction is engaged although the road conditions do not justify this. Any comments?

On my 2004 chevy impala the traction control abs warning lights come on and stay on .

If the ABS has failed, there will not be any traction control since the latter is dependent on it.

You could have failed or damaged wheel sensors.

What is stabilitrak chevy

Stabilitrak is a design that lets the ECU and the ABS system share information. If you step on the gas pedal and loose traction, the ABS tells the ECU that you have lost traction. The ECU calculates what it should do to help and usually will ignore your request for "more fuel" (when you step on the gas pedal) and will reduce the power to the transmission until the ABS system communicates that traction has returned. More than likely there is a failure in the ABS system. The problem may be intermittent right now but this will need to be repaired. If you have an ABS code reader please let me know what codes are stored. If not then you will need to send your car in for diagnostis and an estimate for repair, let me know if I can be of any more help, good luck.

The ABS control Module is going bad, that all, since the ABS and traction work together you will get both lights on. Take to a mechanic, expect to spend about $500.

sounds like you have a wheel hub out causing the lights to come on. odds are it would be the front left. it's not sensing right causing the traction control to be turned on. or it could be a loose wire for that hub. gm cars has had a problem with these two issues.

2003 Chevy Impala Service Traction Sytem show on Dash

I can't answer the question about the gas fumes, but I had the same problem last year with the "Service Traction Sysytem" message and the Trac and ABS lights coming on in my Impala. Mine turned out to be because of a bad wheel bearing, that was causing the ABS and traction system not to work. I'm not sure if you've experienced this, but another thing that would happen with mine was that I would go to brake and have a hard time depressing the brake pedal, almost like it was pushing back. That is the point when the Trac and ABS lights came on.

Service traction system message on dash

This light is usually caused by a problem in the ABS system. A problem in the ABS system will dissable the traction control system. you will need to have the computers scanned for trouble codes.
