Replace power window motor without removing entire regulator

I want to replace the motor on my 1998 Astro power window. Can I replace the motor without taking the entire regulator out of the door?

Actually I gambled this morning before I received your answer. I proped up the window, drilled out the revits, the old motor slipped right out through the acess hole. I greased up the new motor, connected the power wire, drilled out the holes to take a larger revit ( 7/32), put two self tapping metal screws with lock washers for good measure. The motor works great. You might want to pass this along to others.

You will have to take the regulator out to do it, sorry. It is not a real hard thing to do but it is the only way. Good Luck

How do you replace front drivers side window motor 1997 mercury mystique

The motor and regulator need to come out here is how to do that.

    • 1Gently remove the door panel of your Contour, ensuring that you don't break the three door clips that hold it on. As you pull the panel from the door, support the panel from below. This will ensure that none of the wiring inside the door is damaged. Release the wiring from the components inside the door, including the power window mechanism, power lock mechanism (if equipped) and the stereo speaker. Place the door panel in a safe area with the clips so they are accessible when you are ready to replace them.
    • 2Remove the window glass by sliding it up and out of the door. Support the glass from the bottom so it doesn't drop and break. Window glass for a Contour can cost around $150 to replace. After you remove the glass, put it in a safe place. You may want to wrap it in old towels or blankets to protect it until you are ready to reinstall it.

Rear right side window(glass)stuck half way.does not work

does this happen from both the Driver's & RR passenger's window switch?
if from both check for power at the window motor. If no power at the motor for only one switch, replace suspect switch. if power at the motor, remove motor from regulator asy. & and motor again in both direction. If motor and switches good, replace the regulator asy.

How to replace window regulator

you will need to drill out some rivets. Replace with ntus and bolts and washers & lock washers. Make sure they don't hit glass going up and down. Otherwise you will need a heavy duty riveter.

Replace left front window regulator

You can get a replacement window regulator from many on-line parts warehouses, or at your local Kragen, Autozone, etc. Price for the regulator only (less motor) run between $65-$85, with the motor costing around the same price. I did find one place which had the regulator/motor combo for $75.

Here are a few on-line links: ( This is where I found the combo for $75)

By the way, I am going to try to replace the same parts on my 1998 Sienna van. Any idea where I can download the procedures for free? Don't need the entire repair manual, just the information for replacing the regulator/motor.
