Question about 2000 Chevrolet Impala

A.C.\D.I.C. (Driver Information Center) work intermintently. No Ck.Eng. Lts. When The D.I.C. lights up, A.C. engages. I have been told it is something to do with the outside temp. sensor for the D.I.C

I have a 2000 Chev Impala LS. It recently out of the Blue developed a problem with the A.C.\inboard circulating fan not engaging. This is an intermittent problem. Doesn't do it all the time. The car has a D.I.C. (Driver Information Center). When it lights up, the fan\A.C. kick on. If I shut off the fan or turn off the vehicle, an restart, sometimes the fan\A.C. don't engage. I've been told by a mechanic who works at one of the Big dealerships here in Henderson NV, that the temperature sensing device that activates the D.I.C. is faulty. Do you know where that device\electrical component is located so I can replace it myself? Sincerely, Ken from Henderson NV keb301@hotmail.com

In a 1978 Chevrolet Impala? The category you posted is home air conditioners.

Sounds like the fan has failed.

Heat comes from the radiator via the heater core and the air circulation fan. The radiator must be full of coolant.

Cold air comes from the air conditioner compressor via a clutch drive from the serpentine belt, sometimes a separate belt. Cold air comes from the evaporator element and the air is also forced by the air circulation fan.

First thing to do is find the fan body in the bulkhead and tap the back with the handle of a hammer. Sometimes the brushes stick. Then check the fuses.

Why does the fan keep running in my 2000 impala after the car is off

The cooling fan in front of the radiator is thermostat controlled. Apparently the engine is hot enough to warrant it's running after the engine is turned off. You might have a coolant circulation problem. Is the car running on the hot side when you drive? It could also be a bad fan thermostat.
